How can you justify paying a benefit to everyone by saying it is important to the very poor? It is the grasp of the middle income people for poverty benefits that kills the budget.

I think I missed your point.

I am middle class and I pay both sides of the tax issue ( I'm self employed). The government got the extra $9K from me only because I sold some land due to the lower tax rate.

If the rate stayed high I would have sat on the land till Dante's Pond turned into a skating rink.
