Briney Spears is in controversy again, and this time its her driving skills which has put her in a state of bother. Photos published on Tuesday showed Spears driving around her SUV with her son, Sean Preston on her lap rather than strapped into a car seat. Spears apparently was avoiding the paparazzi, who stalked her when she sent her minder into a coffee shop for some drinks.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Sgt. Diane Hecht said Tuesday that deputies went to Spears’ home to collect information for the county Department of Family and Children Services. A DCFS spokesman declined to offer specifics about the incident.

"We don’t say who, what or if we’re investigating," department spokesman Stu Riskin said.

The sheriff’s department won’t pursue any charges, Deputy Luis Castro said.

"I had a horrifying, frightful encounter with the paparazzi while I was with my baby," she said in a statement. "Because of a recent incident when I was trapped in my car without my baby by a throng of paparazzi, I was terrified that this time the physically aggressive paparazzi would put both me and my baby in danger. I instinctively took measures to get my baby and me out of harm’s way."

Meanwhile, Spears issued a statement insisting that she is a good mother and that incident in question was the result of a "frightful encounter with the paparazzi."

"I instinctively took measures to get my baby and me out of harm’s way, but the paparazzi continued to stalk us, and took photos of us which were sold to the media.

"I love my child and would do anything to protect him."

When driving with an infant on your lap merits a visit from Child Protective Services, I think we've gone Nanny State insane.

As Judge Napolitano said this morning on Fox 'N Friends, the police have a photograph of Spears driving with her daughter in the front seat! What more proof do you need!! (I love the Judge!)

What is interesting (and blows all kind of holes in BS's bs story) is that if you look in the passenger seat, there appears to be a beefy looking body guard. Ok...so why is Brit driving? Don't security guys learn evasive driving techniques? So why would BS ever have been behind the wheel?

If ever there was a celebrity in desparate need of a stylist, it is Brittny Spears.

Agreed, especially considering all of the real child neglect & abuse that they ignore.

Had she hit even a curb hard and that airbag deployed the baby is dead. If the car was older and didn't have any then yeah, just let it go. But now that little tike is sitting in front of an explosive charge - One hard bump and the kid is sent through the rear window, I have seen them knock a firefighter back 5' on his ass before.

Not the nanny state...in many states having a child in proper safety seat is the law. When a newborn leaves the hospital here in PA you have to have a car seat...if not, the hospital will give you one (given thru a state program). Infant seats save lives. Even in a minor accident a baby (or anything you are holding) becomes a projectile. And in BS case, its not like she can't afford to have one for her baby boy. I don't think there was a chase...I think BS is just stupid (she married K-Fed so what else can be said).

Was Michael Jackson ever investigated for hanging "his" baby over the edge of a balcony? Us commoners are not afforded the leniency of the law that celebs are.

P.S. When is this white trash going to see the end of her 15 minutes?

I think this is one of those 'damned if you do; damned if you don't' scenarios for CPS. The pix are out there, on the web, and soon to be National Enquirer...so what do they do? Ignore them? Then the rich and famous 'get away' with actions the rest get charged with; pay a visit to BS and get slammed for ignoring 'real' neglect and abuse. No win situation.

I look at that picture and think; "Poor child." What possible chance does he have to become a normal productive adult male? Her influence will be bad. His fathers influence will be tragic.
