A San Francisco cab driver misidentified by the San Francisco Chronicle as a police officer with a history of violence said the incident has made him fear for his safety, but that he has no immediate plans to sue.

Jack Neeley Jr., 42, said he worries that people with a grudge against police officers will become violent with him as a result of an article about police violence in Sunday's Chronicle.

It included a picture of Neeley and identified the man pictured as Sgt. John Haggett, a 23-year veteran of the force who was suspended three times for using unnecessary force and has been the subject of dozens of citizen complaints.

"When I come out of the house, I kind of scan the area, making sure no one is looking out," Neeley said at a news conference. "It's kind of changed the way I walk out of the house."

The story was part of an ongoing series examining the police department's use-of-force policy. The Chronicle on Monday said it got the picture wrong.

You're probably right. Maybe that is why he said this. :)

"When I come out of the house, I kind of scan the area, making sure no one is looking out," Neeley said at a news conference. "It's kind of changed the way I walk out of the house."

I am surprised this story has not got a bigger play in the conservative blogs and web sites. The picture showed a guy, who they said was a "bad" cop when in fact he was an innocent civilian with no connection to this story, was on the front page of the Chronicle. The paper is doing a week long expose on the SF police. The MSM brags that it is so much more efficient that the blogs and has this check and double check system so it never makes errors. Well this goof was a biggie.

Once again the Comicle lives up to it's name!! I'm surprised they had room on the front page for a story that wasn't Bush Lied, People Died! But, I guess to them Police Bashing is almost as good. Now, if they could just get the story right..............
