Reports: London demonstrator on parole for drug dealing

LONDON, England -- A man who dressed as a suicide bomber during London protests against cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed has been arrested, police said.

Tuesday morning's arrest of Omar Khayam, 22, of Bedford, north of London, came it emerged he was on parole for drug dealing.

Khayam was sentenced to six years in prison in 2002 for possessing crack cocaine with intent to supply [...] released on parole last year after serving half his sentence [...]

On Monday, Khayam met reporters outside his home and apologized "wholeheartedly" for his behavior in Friday's protests [...]

Earlier, he was quoted by the Daily Express newspaper as saying he wanted to highlight "double standards." [...] If certain people have the right to do what they want and other people don't, then that is double standards." [SIC!]

Meanwhile, Scotland Yard said it has set up a special squad to investigate people who took part in the protest. Many protesters carried signs threatening death and terrorist attacks in retaliation for the cartoons.

Charles Clarke, Britain's home secretary (interior minister), told MPs that police and prosecuting authorities were carrying out "rigorous assessments" about the appropriate way to proceed in individual cases.

Senior detectives [...] will decide quickly whether to send files on any of the demonstrators to prosecutors, and they could then face incitement charges. [...]

CNN has chosen to not show the cartoons out of respect for Islam.

Sounds like Omar the Crack Dealer (and protester for the purity of Islam) smoked too much of his own merchandise.

Isn't dealing drugs an instant 'death penalty' in Islamic countries?
How convenient his convictions are....

Apparently not if the proceeds are going to support radical Islam (if not terrorism outright):

A Muslim demonstrator who imitated a suicide bomber in London to protest over cartoons satirising the Prophet Muhammad is a convicted drug dealer. Omar Khayam, 22, of Bedford, was jailed in 2002 and released on licence last year after serving half of his sentence for dealing heroin and cocaine. It is believed probation officers are now reviewing his case. Khayam has apologised to those affected by the 7 July bombs, saying his protest was as "insensitive" as the cartoons. He was given five-and-a-half years in prison in December 2002. The demonstration outside London's Danish embassy on Friday and Saturday mirrored...

This is great. None of the idiots with the death threat signs and chants should go unscathed from that cartoon demonstration/riot. They probably thought they got away with it since the police were letting them "go for it." They exposed themselves as radicals to be watched by the police.
