The details are sketchy. Was she part of the "ring" or just a person who placed bets?

From the link..

Authorities said Tocchet and state police Trooper James Harney were partners in the operation, with the ex-NHL forward providing the financing.

"Tocchet received illegal sports bets from wagers and funneled money back to New Jersey," Fuentes said.

RICO.

It all comes down to the government not getting their cut. The gov can't stand that it still can't get their hands on monies made from gambling.

Funny how RICO gets enforced on a private sports book of all things....but the ACLU...Jesse Jackson...Teachers unions are all above the law and can continue their shenanigans.

You nailed it. Govt should get out of gambling all together and leave it to private enterprise and/or the mob where it belongs.

What a dumb waste of law enforcement's time.

Funny you should mention that. Law enforcement officials got started on this investigation when they learned that a New Jersey state trooper was running the operation while he was on duty.
