Fascinating. I hadn't made that connection.
President Bush called off the hunt for those weapons last year and has conceded that America has yet to find evidence of the stockpiles.
That's a crock. Our forces found plenty of evidence, including small amounts of chemical weapons. What they did not find were the stockpiles. (Yes, amazingly the Iraqis were not stupid enough to leave them in the areas described publicly by Colin Powell and others months prior to the invasion.)
Why this particular chain of custody? Have some in the intelligence community been sitting on information linking Saddam to WMD's? Nah.
Gosh Coop - 13 posts and no one's saying there are no WMD's!! Is this a record??
There have been a couple of articles posted on these tapes and how slow the translating has been of the tapes and also the translating of millions of documents seized.
We had the original blurb on this posted last
week. If I recall correctly, the post discovery
entailed translating the conversations before
transcribing onto a CD. So, ONE CD would fit,
if the team has presented only part of the
finished work. Seems to have been enough to
spark interest by the Committee.
I anticipate House Dems on the Committee
trying to quash the importance of the info.
THTCA. (Too hot to cover Ass)
We didn't really find true WMD, so hopefully these tapes will lead us to them.
They were removed to Syria before Desert Storm II... and they are still there. I think it was easier for the administration to admit they were wrong on WMD than to keep on saying "But, But...."
