I hope you are not zotted. In fact, I hope you post often. I would love to hear your disagreements, reasonably stated. This board, and conservatism generally, can always stand reasonable dissent. If the dissent is incorrect, posters should logically discuss it instead of crying out for a zot or insulting the dissenter. That's the point of freedom of speech, to let people see all the arguments and make their own call on which is right.
It's too bad some here can't see that. But then, if the board was run by a mod with an iron hand, it wouldn't be FR, either. I'm all for self-restraint and personal responsibility over a nanny-state-board like DU.
But I think it's entertaining that you claim to be anti-capitalist in bent, while the same time, you must realize in your heart that humanity wilts under such a scheme. You left DU for the very reason that their central planning didn't accomodate you in the marketplace of ideas. Surely you can see that at least to a degree people would react the same way to any government economic planning?
I guess I believe in best by test. If capitalism means growth, low unemployment, class mobility etc., well, it's hard to argue against results. If it means stagnation, high unemployment, limited class mobility, well, that speaks for itself too.
Personally, I think what Wal-Mart has done is impressive. I'm glad Wal-Mart exists. On the other hand, I can't stand companies like Verizon, Con Edison and whatnot. Perhaps it would be better if instead of saying I am anti-capitalist, saying I am against monopoly capitalism. If all of corporate America was populated by Verizons and Con Edisons I would be all for hoisting the red flag. As long as innovators like Wal-Mart, Google etc. exist, I would say capitalism is contributing something positive to the world.
