Duly noted, but I would also point out that there are many pious Christians who have been deluded by liberalism, just as there are a good many conservative Jewish and atheist FReepers.
Moreover, some of the ugliest threads I have seen here have been evangelicals vs. Catholics or evangelicals vs. Mormons. I frequently find myself wishing there were a bit more Christian -- or rather Judeo-Christian -- unity and a little less Bible-thumping and God-shouting around here.
ClassConscious, if you manage to hang on, and it looks like you might, don't think that you have to toe any religious line to be a FReeper or a conservative. Gratuitous anti-Christian statements will surely wear out your welcome, but respectful debate and honestly held differences will not.

I like you so far .... stick around and debate
Ahem. I've updated the header of this thread to include a link to a prior thread posted by this troll in an earlier and more truthful life. Once a commie troll, always a commie troll.
You make a good point about the movies; Hollywood seems to be almost incapable of depicting a businessman as anything other than a heartless rapacious villain.
You ought to apply this moment of insight to your own conception of real-life capitalism. What you have said about capitalism makes me think you have internalized the stereotypical media image of the "spatted and top-hatted" robber baron of the 1890's. Much of what the public perceives as the injustice of capitalism actually should be considered anti-free-market interference by the government and government-sanctioned monopolies.
I am a proud capitalist. My partners and I have risked our personal funds and credit to start an enterprise that now employs 250 people. Our employees make a nice living and enjoy good benefits. They are highly trained professionals who could work anywhere, and we have to offer them good terms of employment, or we would soon be out of business. We pay their salaries first, along with all of our other bills. We only keep what's left over at the end of the month. It is not unheard of for us to make less than our highest-paid employees, while working longer hours. I am proud that my business provides 250 people with an excellent job and puts food on 250 tables every day. I feel strongly that no government paper-pusher in the history of mankind has done as much tangible good for society as I do every day.

We were right! See what Jim Rob has posted and go read the link he provided.

Yaa, you repukes are not doing so well, huh? Imagine, you repukes control the presidency, both houses of Congress, and appointed 7 of the 9 Supreme Court justices. Yet the Supreme Court thre out sodomy laws in all 50 states and recognized the right of government to seize land for any reason. And you couldn't pass your Social Security changes could you? Sorry, that was your last shot. Come November, we're going to start seeing more Democratic faces in the House. It's the end for you guys. You guys are celebrating when Bush's numbers go *up* to 45%. Then Faux News trumpets this like it's some kind of victory.
I should add I am not a Democrat, I am a communist. And I know one day the workers will control the means of production, and all the capitalist idle class parasites you guys love will be eliminated as a class...

He must listening to those NSA wiretaps again. :o)
Color me blind.
One of the biggest mistakes ever made in the history of governance. This is why they had food and coal rationing in England even into the 1950's. In fact, food rationing under the peacetime Labour government was even stricter and more far-reaching than during the war!
Anybody who sings the praises of socialism has a lot to answer for. They can start with explaining why, after winning a war, England had to introduce bread rationing during peacetime. This was not even done in the darkest depths of 1940 and 1941, when England stood alone and was almost strangled by the Nazis.
I know what I am talking about here. My father had a factory in England that failed under the heavy hand and crushing taxes of the Labour government, throwing dozens of people onto the dole. The stagnation was not shaken off until Maggie Thatcher came to power in the late 1970's.
Dad sold out and emigrated to the USA, and now employs many more dozens of people here. I employ hundreds of people, along with my partners, as I discussed in a previous post. All of those people benefit from capitalism, while my father's former employees suffered mightily for the ideological chimera of socialism.
Worse than this, we invite our city friends to bring their guns out to the mountains for a day of shooting. We even encourage our city friends to buy more guns since they nearly always have the wrong stuff for self-defense.
He aint the first one to engage the afterburners on the way out of FR and then come back a month later all humble and kissy-poo.
As long as he doesn't get obnoxious again, he gives us a hard-left viewpoint to debate against. I know it's hardly a fair fight, but even black belts have to keep in practice.
Here's a guy flat out saying "I'm your Huckleberry." Check his profile.
And how do most capitalist monolpolies continue to exist nowadays? With government help. Comcast, for example, used to have local monolopoies for cable service. Verizon, back when it was a baby bell, had the same for local telephone service.
Now both are getting much more agressive with their pricing - I can choose from either for high-speed internet now, and other choices are in the works. And their service and product offerings are improving as well.
I think what you are objecting to is the collusion of capitalism and government that leads to monopolies, which in turn leads to high prices, poor innovation and crappy service - and I would agree entirely with your dislike of such.
But how is that different from when government takes the place of capitalism and you can only do business with it - such as the single-payer health system in Canada where you can wait months for an MRI? You have to travel outside the country to circumvent that problem, which means the government has a monopoloy on health care within its borders and no competition to do a better job.
Regarding IT work, I lost my job for eight months in 2002. Had to re-invent myself for about the eight time since I started in IT back in the early 1980s. It would be nice to return to the days when dad worked at the same company for 40 years and retired with a pension. But those days are long gone, and the economic models from back then - closed-market capitalism, socialism and hard communism - none of them can compete nowadays with modern technology and fluid capital markets. The ChiComs have gone capitalistic, the North Koreans are stuck eating tree bark because they haven't, and there are millions of people elsewhere in the world who would love to have my job. That is just the nature of the beast today, and wishing for the economic systems of old to come back won't do anything to address that reality.
They both produce the same thing.
Well, always worth a shot or two. . .OTOH. . .he has just found FR; who knows. . .maybe he will begin accessing a wider range of information. . .I mean; 'probabilities' aside - it is possible!
With a *sigh*. . .as well. ;^)
Will he? I am convinced that some school systems permanently brainwash the students who embrace socialism at an early age. They foster a dogmatic hatred of the wealthy; They ridicule tradition and Christian faith; They are persuaded that the virtues of prudence and modesty are actually rooted in "shame" and fueled by a lack of self-esteem; They are taught to worship sexuality at the expense of intellectual development and civic responsibility.
Frankly, I suspect ClassConscious will not be able to move away from his deep, obsessive hatred of wealth, biblical values and individual achievement.
The last time The guy at post 214 defended someone, it was a troll in the War on Beer ZOT thread.
He thinks trolls should be given free reign and range to roam FRR.
If he's defending someone, that means there is likely a problem with the poster he is defending.
Like, the poster is a troll.
(We have a group of grumpy agitators who have nothing better to do than to wander around and defend trolls and claim we should 'debate' them.)
I'd been hoping for a replacement for Murrymom.. but when one of the troll defenders shows up to spread their joy..
Troll defender + unknown quantity avowed liberal but polite noob = zot in my eyes.
If it was only "unknown quantity avowed liberal but polite noob" by itself minus the troll defender, there would be a slight difference.
She was busy saying that soldiers in uniform should not be allowed to vote.
A few days before that she had a timeout.
