His remarks ARE outrageous!

He became a GREENIE because the market's tech BUBBLE burst and you find THAT reasonable? LOL

He says that he will never ever, NOT EVER, even be a centrist and THAT is reasonable to you?

Yes he really IS a "capitalist" and apparently always has been. Ergo, he hates himself. So, why can't I hate him too? Well, I don't actually hate him...I just find him pathetic and stupid and childish and petulant and boring and trite and a case of arrested development. He writes as though he was a bright 16 year old; yet, he claims to be 31.

I accept your apology and don't care at all that you disagree with my. I don't demand that everyone MUST agree with me 100% of the time. And even IF I did, nobody would ever have to do it. LOL

And THERE is part of your problem...you have NO idea what capitalism is! LOL

It actually is the first part and Communism is the latter. In Communist "heavens", like the old USSR, all they had was Con Eds. Just try to start a company, on your own, in Cuba or N.Korea.

Interesting, Verizon (telephone) and Con Edison (power utility) both followed a business model of a GOVERNMENT GRANTED, REGULATED AND ENFORCED MONOPOLY, the exact model of communism. So you're willing to raise the red flag because corporations followed the government mandate.

Cute. You are either the most ignorant bookworm in history or one of the smoothest troll I've seen in a while.

I think productivity increase is good. I think China industrializing is good. As far as the US becoming more and more a high productivity service economy, i think that's good as well. As I said in a recent post, I guess I am really more against monopoly capitalism than capitalism. Meaning more anti-Verizon than anti-Wal-Mart.

Don't be honored and proud, be just like you are. There is a road that God will finally lead you to, when He does, take it. It's the only happiness you will ever have. Even if it's the hardest road you ever had, the most impossible thing that you could ever do. If He leads you there, don't stop, and never question yourself. Always believe in you and in the dream that is before you.

Remember, even if you stop, your dream won't. Most of the time it's hard to keep up, but you have to do it. Because once you touch it, once you hold it, it is the rest of your life, it is your life. You live the rest of your life around a dream that you made come true. That, to me has become a wonderful experience. Sure, it was hard, and it wasn't always pleasant, but that's what human beings are supposed to do. They suffer to be better, to make things better.

Don't let anybody tell you that this life is easy, as leftists like to think, it isn't, and it shouldn't be. A thing that is worth your love and dedication should be the one shining glory of your life, whether it be a profession, or your children, or your faith. I'm no better than a housewife that cares for her children, nor am I any better than a mechanic that fixes my car, or the truck driver that delivers my stuff, or the lawyer (I don't like them, but they are the necessary evil), or the store keeper, or the janitor, or the teacher, or the this, or that person that works and makes a living.

I have a good friend that is one of the best mechanics in this country. I have a Classic 1956 Chevy Nomad, and he takes care of that, and so do I, by the way. He helped me rebuild it from the ground up. I have so much respect for this man. It's not a "hot rod" it's a classic. Just like it rolled off the assembly line in 1956. Pristine, and beautiful. My only vice. Rebuilding that car made me a friend, and I will always respect that man for the knowledge that I never had. He taught me so much about that car and mechanics. A nice thing in deed, and a great friend to have.

I've read through this entire thread and just can't believe a DU person is on the up and up here. Wolf in sheep's clothing? Guess you and I are in the minority.

If I want to hear the lefty crap I can just watch the MSM news.

You're far too humble.

It isn't your profession, but your tenacity and verve and values and fierce love and honor of family and faith, which impresses me about you. You had a goal, wouldn't allow anything to keep you from succeeding, and you reached your goal and I'm sure, gone beyond it.

Unlike cranky LIBERALS and stinking Commies, you never played the "victim", never blamed others, never hated those who had an easier time/few hurdles to climb. That speaks volumes!

I've been fortunate; I admit it. I've more or less had the life I want/ed.

I am not a troll. I just realized today that FR had more freedom than DU in its sphere because FR is conservative, while DU is Democratic Party Line. DU even says that is what it is in its rules (as FR says in its rules). Imagine the moderators here announcing people here can only support the Republican Party, mention of the Libertarian or Constitution Party was verboten, and any messages that supported the LP or CP would be locked, and possibly erased, with the poster maybe even being banned. That's the situation on DU. Do you really think I am happy with that? I'm not.

I am going to go to bed soon. In the future, I will be following FR threads regarding economics, and gun control. I don't plan on getting into *debates* on economics in other threads, but perhaps I will be involved in discussions on economics. I'm mostly interested in what those well-versed in macro-economics think about certain things. I am not that familiar with the arguments of conservative economists like Hayek, Milton Friedman and so forth. I don't entertain hopes of converting anyone to my view of economics since I only started seriously reading about economics in 2000 and there is so much that I do not know.

Anyhow, I am soon going to sleep. Some responses have been interesting.

THANK YOU!

No, we aren't in the minority at all, here. The bleeding hearts just out posted our side and not that many people have posted to this thread...yet.

This is not going to make me a conservative or Republican. I am a working class person and hate capitalists.

So you like to bite the hand that feeds you? You have a jealously issue whether you admit it or not.

Right.

You ain't been debating here, just spouting reading lists and corporate names with inaccurate info attached, you won't defend lefty economics because you would have to post BS and you would be tagged in a heartbeat. Give your employees a raise so they can buy hipboots.

Bye.

ClassConscious said: "As long as innovators like Wal-Mart, Google etc. exist, I would say capitalism is contributing something positive to the world."

Could you perhaps provide a modest list of the contributions of non-capitalists to the world? Given your attitude one might expect this list to be quite impressive.

seems the words you are looking for are 'free market' - monopolies are the opposite of free markets - lack of freedom in where to spend your personal capital. True, free markets tend to keep the competitors more honest and socially beneficial, at least so long as the customer base is socially broad, meaning a large portion of the society must have sufficient means to afford the choices offered. The trick is realizing that capitalism is what produeces that state even though unequally distributed, while monopolistic (i.e. state) controlled economies claim to seek to distribute capital equally and do so only by making everyone equally lacking in capital.

It's like how advancing technology is the real solution to envionmentalism, while capitalism has afforded us the leisure to be able to care about the environment and expend our 'leisure' capital towards that end. I've never understood why environmentalists so often seem to despise the very systems that would help their supposed interests.

You know, you might just find that modern day 'conservatism' is really the most effective route towards 'progressive' goals - at least better than anything else we humans have happened upon in the last many miilenia.

ps - wrt the gdp - its the same on a micro-economic scale - eg your new enterprise. Watch out for cash flow. That's what kills most new businesses. Too slow and you starve between influxes. Too fast and you drown. Keep the flow steadily growing, and if it takes off faster than you can handle, get the hell out - Sell the business to someone who is well enough financed to handle it and start over. You'll get a better education in economics through your own business than you ever will any other way.
