Earth in for another "ice age" in mid-century - scientist

ST. PETERSBURG, February 6 (RIA Novosti) - Low solar activity could trigger a global freeze in the middle of the 21st century, a Russian astronomer said Monday.

Khabibullo Abdusamatov of the Pulkovo Astronomic Observatory said temperatures would begin falling six or seven years from now, when global warming caused by increased solar activity in the 20th century reached its peak, and that the coldest period would occur 15-20 years after a major solar output decline in 2035-2045.

Abdusamatov said dramatic changes in the earth's surface temperatures were an ordinary phenomenon, not an anomaly, and resulted from variations in the Sun's energy output and ultraviolet radiation.

The Northern Hemisphere's most recent cool-down period of 1645-1705, known as the Little Ice Age, left canals in Holland frozen solid and forced people in Greenland to abandon their houses to glaciers, the scientist said.

I know this also must be Bush's fault, but how is it going to be explained to us in those moonbat letters to the editor in the local newspapers?

Haliburton?

Rove?

Exxon/Mobil?

This won't happen. I have invested in the Iowa citrus industry, I am counting on global warming to make my investment payoff.

I hope this guy is right because it gets mighty hot here in Texas and we could use some colder weather.

I guess no one told this guy that the temperature of the Earth has been exactly as it is now since the beginning of time, and only recently started to change because people in America started driving SUV's.

*rolls eyes*

Where's Erlich? I knew if he would just stick to his story for more than a decade his theory's would come back into vogue.

This article is a little short on information, so far I haven't been able to find anything on the astronomer either.

It must be Bush's fault he tricked them...again.

Yes, he just waits till the enviros stake out their position and then he uses his great powers to reverse global warming to global cooling, and then vice versa. When he's finished with 'em the only field enviros will have any credibility in will be scatology.

I cannot find anything on him either. But Pulkovo Observatory is one of major (possibly, the major) Observatories in Russia and he is listed on their stuff page. They list his degree as Dr. Sc. which is the second doctoral degree in Russia, after the regular Ph.D. (which is called Cand. Sc.).

So, he appears to be an established scientist and I am confused why google does not find him. The article might be transcribing his name into English differently from the normal way. That is often a problem with Russian names.

That was the fad then. It didn't work on schedule so they went from nuclear winter to global warming. Now that global warming is begining to wan enviro-whacos have to build another altar. Meantime we just ignore these nuts and keep on keeping on. Mother nature will give us plenty of time to adjust to any changing conditions.

I did just find out that Pulkovo (or whatever the H) is one major observatory. So he is on the staff and has doctorates? Interesting. I've wondered at times if solar activity was not a cause for climate change - the fact that it is happening on Mars argues for that (strongly).

In any case, it would seem apparent that climate is too complicated to allow high confidence (as the NHC puts it) forecasting. William Gray doesn't think so at any rate.

It's a scientific fact that the next ice age will be caused by the actions of this little guy;
