George Bush's Campaign Team Joining John McCain

With the 2008 presidential election less than three years away, more than a few members of President Bush's campaign team have begun to migrate to the current GOP frontrunner, Sen. John McCain.

According to Newsweek magazine, Mark McKinnon, Bush's longtime media adviser, has told the president he's ready to leap aboard McCain's "Straight Talk Express," unless brother Jeb or Condoleezza Rice change their minds and get into the race.

Among Bush fundraisers, the biggest catch, says Newsweek, is Tom Loeffler, a former congressman from San Antonio, who is a Bush-family loyalist and helped build Bush's money machine in 2000.

Ron Weiser, who was Bush's finance chairman in Michigan in 2000, has also joined McCain.

However, in a bizarre observation considering the Arizona maverick's frontrunner status, McKinnon told Newsweek: "I'd rather lose with McCain than win with somebody else."

Other presidential hopefuls scouting for campaign talent include Tennessee Sen. Bill Frist, Virginia Sen. George Allen and Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.

Notably absent from the competition: former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who was leading McCain in most GOP presidential preference polls last year - but has done little to advance a presidential bid lately.

You better believe one thing: if the Democrats EVER get power back, they're not going to EVER give it up, so that "let's teach the GOP a lesson" agenda of the extreme right wing sucks.

Right on. They accuse Bush of taking a hard right turn soon after the "controversial" 2000 elections. If they get their way in 08 then with eight years of pent up anger , they will take the country off the edge of the earth. They want BLOOD. I cannot see that happen and just for that I will vote for whoever is the Republican nominee. If its McCain I will still vote for him, if not enthusiastically.

"A McCain nomination would just about snuff out conservatism... another Clinton in the White House would snuff out America."

But, it just might go a long way towards snuffing out Islamafacism. That ain't all bad in my book.

I first met Allen back in 92 when he was running for governor and nobody thought he had a chance against Mary Sue Terry, but he won easily.

Back in early 2000, not a lot of people were thinking that GWB could win the nomination but he did. In 92, NOBODY thought Bill Clinton could get nominated but he did.

My point is that candidates often win nominations after impressing people on the campaign trail. McCain was not impressive in 2000 and since then he has really irritated the conservative base. Guiliani performed remarkably after 9/11, but he is way to liberal on abortion, homosexuality and the Second Amendment.

"In June of 2005, Allen co-sponsored a resolution that had the Senate formally apologize for never passing federal legislation despite the lynching of nearly 5,000 people between 1882 and 1968. While spearheading this apology, Allen stood in the Senate and said, "I rise today to offer a formal and heartfelt apology to all the victims of lynching in our history, and for the failure of the United States Senate to take action when action was most needed."

I do not support lynching, but this was not necessary. As I understand it, he injected himself into this to get good press, and possibly to pander to certain groups. Apology politics is a fool's game. Making personal statements of positions are one thing, this kind of stuff is another thing.

Let's see how this unfolds before assuming anything. She can't win, period. I don't believe so anyway.

Rice has said she is not running for President. To my knowledge she has not excluded other jobs like Vice President.
Imagine President X + Rice. X+R=16 years. 24 years if you include W. That is a fairly stong slapdown to liberalism, not to mention terrorists, aging hippies, lawyers, shysters, freeloaders and Michael Moore and his band of renown.

Neither wil this open border crackpot get my vote. And I'll make sure other immediate family members won't vote for this leftist traitor. They usually listen to me.

My concern is some backroom deals are being worked so he runs unopposed. President Bush would have (run unopposed) if McCain hadn't decided he wanted to get in on the fun. If the RNC is twisting arms and takes away our free choice, I'm going to be very unhappy.

Backroom deals or not, none of them will get my vote unless they address and promise to do something about immigration that satisfies me, both legal and illegal immigration. That is why it's called a representative democracy and transfer our power to them - so they act on our behalf.

If they want address the critical issue facing our country, as usual, I'll cast my write-in votes.

That is an interesting report from CATO which I missed. I skimmed it, and downloaded it to read in depth later. The first thing that struck me is that the rankings of governors were pretty much evenly sprinkled from top to bottom with R's and D's. At first glance, one would conclude that that isn't good. But you have to realize that each state is different in how it's government is constituted. Some Governors have very strong powers, and some are weak v.s. their legislative counterparts.

BTW, I was down in your neck of the woods last week piloting a Beech "Starship", to its final resting place in Arizona. Type "Beech Starship" into a google search to find out more about these revolutionary airplanes. Witnessing the best and worst of capitalism was sad duty. Though Beech is already working on Starship II, to accommodate the government's objections, it is sickening to destroy these perfectly good and sweet to fly airplanes. The decisions have already been made though, and the surrender papers signed, and a billion dollars worth of work will get incinerated, literally.

What I can't live with is the idea of putting the likes of McCain in the Oval Office. No way in heel will I advance that nightmare.

Fine. If you can't put the likes of John McCain in the Oval Office, you will put the likes of Hillary Clinton in the Oval Office (with Bill back in the spare bedroom). Know that you'll be responsible for advancing that nightmare:

1) Liberal federal judicial nominees
2) National Health Care
3) A push for homosexual marriage nationwide
4) Attorney General Jamie Gorelick
5) The abandonment of Israel as an ally
6) The appeasement of terrorists
7) Higher income taxes
8) A nuclear Iran and Syria
9) Higher federal spending
10) Another Clinton Co-Presidency

I can live with that.

Some "conservatives" have the memories of gnats.

Another proof of my point that the Republican Party has no principles. None. Other than reelection, of course.

I don't see any McCain supporters here, all I see is fear mongers scared of Hillary. You are right, the base will never allow McCain to get past the primaries.
