I seem to remember that line, or something very similar, in Michael Crichton's novel "Eaters of the Dead." The story is about a Muslim who is sent as an ambassador by the sultan to the Vikings. It was made into a movie, "The Thirteenth Warrior" starring Antonio Banderas.
Crichton's novel is based on Ibn Fadlan's memoirs, which is also the source of the page you cited.
