Actually, you can. There are differing strains, and some of those differing strains have become resistant to certain forms of treatment due to poor adherence to treatment regimens. This is where the so-called "superstrain" of AIDS, that is resistant to virtually all treatment and progresses from infection to full-blown in a matter of months, instead of years.
