Davis says he supports adoption by same-sex couples, not marriage (FL Dem Gov candidate)

TAMPA, Fla. Same-sex couples should be able to adopt children, Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jim Davis told a largely gay group Saturday. But the Tampa congressman later told reporters that he does not support gay marriage in Florida.

Davis spoke at a conference of the Florida Gay-Lesbian-Bisexual-Transgender Democratic Caucus.

"I believe, as my grandfather did, that we are all equal in the eyes of God," he said. "What matters is on the inside."

Davis also told the conference that he would work to reduce school class sizes and fight oil drilling off Florida beaches. Citing the Terri Schiavo case, he said he thought family members should make end-of-life decisions without government interference.

He told reporters afterward that he supported civil unions, but he did not think the state was ready for a Massachusetts-style system allowing marriage between same-sex partners.

"I think marriage is a religious sacrament, and I don't think the government should get involved in that," Davis said. "But I do think as governor I have an obligation to make sure that every person is treated fairly."

According to census data, about 1.2 million of Florida's estimated 10 million voters consider themselves to be gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender, said Stephen Gaskill, the caucus' communications director.

About 70 percent of those voters are Democrats, Gaskill said.

Davis and state Sen. Rod Smith are competing in the Sept. 5 primary for the gubernatorial nomination. The winner will face either Attorney General Charlie Crist or state Chief Financial Officer Tom Gallagher, who seek the Republican nomination.

The general election is Nov. 7

Does the census now ask people if they are (a) voters and (b) transgendered???

LOL -actually the word "estimated" should clue anyone in to the fact that the numbers the homosexual activist promotes are derived and manipulated. The census counts -it does not statistically sample...

I am guessing that the communications director of the Florida Gay-Lesbian-Bisexual-Transgender Democratic Caucus considers that a low estimate. Why, everybody he knows is . . .

Yep, that's a great idea. Put at-risk children into another risky situation.

I can't stand people who use children as little progressive social experiments.

Their strong recruitment effort has increased the percentage from 10% (per kinsey...LOL) to 12%!!!

I cannot believe (actually I can believe) they have a GBLT caucus in Florida - is that common practice in other states' demonrat parties?

Isn't that hypocritical?

Throw the kids at em and soil them but don't permit "marriage". Just what does he thing that same sex couples will do to SAME SEX babies and kids? DO you really think it's a strange coincidence that same sex "couples" insist on their gender for kids?

GEESH!

THEY MOLEST THEM!

Yes, consider that raising my voice!

Is it just me or are Democrats starting to talk about God more now that we are appraoching elections. It reminds me of the fellow who never thinks about God until his engine sputters out of gas on a lonely country road.

If I had to pick -- I pray that I never do -- then I would pick marriage over adoption. Please, LEAVE THE KIDS ALONE!

Not being a racist ... I purposely left it open ended. It is something they would like - kids - as one pretends to be the "father" and one pretends to be the "mother". It's unnatural and obscene.
