Hickenlooper Will Not Run for Colorado Governor
Rocky Mountain News ^

Posted on 02/06/2006 12:00:01 PM PST by PikesPeakGOP

Denver mayor John Hickenlooper ruled out a run for governor of Colorado in a sun splashed news conference in a park between the state capitol and Denver city hall.

The first-term mayor ended months of speculation about the biggest question mark on the Colorado political landscape with the words, "The time right now is for me to focus on the city."

Under a crisp, blue noon hour sky, Hickenlooper said he had telephoned "all three candidates" for governor and apologized for taking so long with his decision.

He had told his cabinet at a meeting this morning he will not be a candidate.

Hickenlooper has been under intense pressure by prominent Democrats to run for the past two months. The front-runner for the Democratic nomination is now former Denver district attorney Bill Ritter.

The mayor has said he wants to complete the work he has undertaken in Denver, and feared that would not be possible if he ran for governor.

Hickenlooper has ruined fundraising for the Democrat frontrunner, Bill Ritter, and the far-left wing of the party was counting on him running. Holtzman, the Republican, polls 4 points ahead of Ritter according to the last Rasmussen poll. This race is looking better every day.

Last year a police officer was killed in cold blood outside a Christening party in downtown Denver.

The killer fled to Mexico. He was an illegal. Denver is declared a safe city for illegals.

The murderer had been working in one of Hickenlooper's pubs.

You may not have heard of him, but I assure you most in the Denver area have heard all about him.

Mexico refused to extradict the murderer until we assured them he wouldn't be eligible for the death penalty OR life without parole.

He's probably related to the Senator of the same name from the 50'/60's.

I've heard of the incident of course. But I sure didn't know this. Forgive me, please, I'm down here in Pueblo and don't get out much...:-)

He'd have to take a pay cut to be guv. Plus, with all that traveling he wouldn't be able to keep tabs on all the illegal aliens working for him at the Cherry Cricket.

If I had a name, Hickenlooper, I wouldn't run for office for sure. Sounds like some chicken disease, or something you would name a hog.

I'm really surprised. I really thought he was running.

A statewide, partisan race, however, would have been very different than the lovefest he's gotten in Denver.

Local Denver talk radio has been all over Hickenlooper. A local song parody artist has done a great parody regarding Hickenlooper and his illegal alien problem. Listen or download at http://www.khow.com/cc-common/podcast/single_podcast.html?podcast=peters_podcast.xml
