Do you realize that weekday workers call in sick on Monday or Friday 40 percent of the time? These people are abusing the system, trying to extend their weekends!
I suspect it's a case of way to many pints of bitters, over their weekends.
What's YOUR excuse? ;^)
That's what happens when the government runs everything. Let the market determine how many vacation days you get. If you don't like what your employer offers, then switch jobs.
I have the highest number of absences in the month of February. W-2's are handed out by the 31st of January, and with the advent of rapid refund, I suspect folks think they are temporarily relieved from "earning" a paycheck.
Why? I've got high speed at work. :)
My wife told me that, with the right paperwork, we could go there and get jobs easy. Brit employers like Americans 'cause of the work ethic...
Though, when I visited Duxford, I didn't see anything wrong with the Brit work ethic. Maybe it was 'cause the guy restorin' the Beaufighter loved his job?
Hey - 20% of sick days in my company are taken on Monday and Friday! ;-P
My work day is, on average, about 65% actual work, 35% internet surfing.
which means they work, what, 35 hours a week?
Must...not...call...in...sick...on...day...after..Super Bowl...
I got to work 2 hours late today.
:^)
I've only had one sick day in 20 years. I really don't understand the mentality of people who take sick time. I would be ridden with guilt if I ever took a sick day just to get some extra time off. Saddling one's co-workers with additional work is a pretty crappy thing to do in my opinion.
calling in sick once in a while is fine, besides, if you've earned the days, you should be able to use them.
what's worse is the phenomenon that has been manifesting itself in my office. doctors diagnosing people with "too much stress" and writing them out a note for excessive leaves of absence. 12 friggin weeks. there have been 3 people here who have done this in the last 1.5 years.
and i *might* could understand it if these people weren't either doing it to themselves or have it be caused by not work related stress.
I'm unemployed right now, so I didn't even have to call in sick to FReep!
Interesting... I called in sick today. hmm.
Women have two built-in excuses that men don't have - "sick" children and "female problems". Particularly if the boss is a man, he's not going to delve too far into either topic.
I worked at one place where one woman called in to say her child was sick. She returned the next day with a new hairstyle, new clothes, looking relaxed and refreshed. I asked her if I could rent one of her kids so I could use that excuse.
Would it start a gender war if I said, "It's because they can?"
