DO you know why the british never have made a line of computers? No one wanted a computer that wouldn't work when it was raining outside? (Lucas Computers! heh heh)

12 friggin weeks. there have been 3 people here who have done this in the last 1.5 years. 12 weeks? That's nothing. You haven't seen anything until you've seen how German public employees can play their system. It truly is an art form that can have them off the majority of the year.

while working on support for desert shield/storm ... we were not really allowed to take days off, especially not 2 weeks worth. The compromise, after 10 months of 110 hr - 6 day weeks, was to have our weekends back.. and stagger the vacation time. Therefore, from Memorial day until Labor day, I took every friday off. Fit with the rules and allowed me to have a few 4 day weekends to boot.
Worked great with the group beach house I had. Best 'vacation' I have ever had in my life (sad to say).

Mine, too. It really helps when you have kids. Ain't that the truth. My director logs in from home every Friday as well. We have a VPN we can take advantage of if we wanted to work from home.
If I had High-speed at home, I'd only drive into work 2-3 days/week (35 miles one way).

We have a VPN we can take advantage of if we wanted to work from home. Unfortunately we're not set up for that. But I can take a laptop home if need be.

...female workers believe they could get away with taking twice as many days off than their male colleagues. Women have two built-in excuses that men don't have - "sick" children and "female problems". Particularly if the boss is a man, he's not going to delve too far into either topic.
I worked at one place where one woman called in to say her child was sick. She returned the next day with a new hairstyle, new clothes, looking relaxed and refreshed. I asked her if I could rent one of her kids so I could use that excuse.

I think your humor was a little too subtle for some here. Nice touch, though.

female workers believe they could get away with taking twice as many days off than their male colleagues. Would it start a gender war if I said, "It's because they can?"

yikes! it was too good apparently, i saw some responses taking it seriously and just got confused. it's sad, i guess, that i had to ask and couldn't just assume that obviously it was a joke. like "do you realize that the american workforce has reached a point where fully half of our workers are below average?"

LOL! I have a beer story--and it ruined me forever. I didn't grow up in an alcohol home, so had never been around it when I went to college. My first month there, I went to some frat parties where beer (stale and mixed with hmmm, sickness) was running through the streets. I got sick and have never been able to tolerate the smell of beer since.
