Printing that cartoon was supremely stupid.
I disagree. It provoked a reaction that was supremely instructive.

Indeed. It is ironic that the public reactions to these cartoons, both in predominantly Musilim countries, and elsewhere, provide better evidence for the substance of the truths they depict than any of their defenders on "free speech" grounds could possibly bring forward.
What will be interesting is to see if our Dhimmi press and politicians and the appropriate "interest sections" of the State Department ever get a clue.
excellent point.
If unchecked - it will be a mere matter of time before any type of negative comment about islam will bring riots to the streets.
Soon enough these muslims will then be living in a muslim country!
There you go! These creeps should slink back to the stinking hell-holes they came from. Then they can go crazy over nothing with all of their friends and neighbors. If they don't like in the West, they should get the hell out and stay out!
How's that for averring?
Based on the way "moslem leaders" say on thing in engish and an entirely different thing arabic I'd bet they are responsible for the placards in the first place.
Pretty difficult to have respect for a faith that advocates the wanton slaughter of innocent human beings for no other reason than that they are not Muslim or not the right type of Muslims.
Also, respect cuts both ways. How much respect is granted to Christians in Muslim countries?
If true, if there is a right not to be offended, there is no freedom of speech.
No. It doesn't.
It's loaded with idiot "feel good" crap.
Stupid, stupid man.
So that's your definition of taking religion seriously? And you approve of it? Do you think more people of different religions should take it that seriously?
Idiot.
I disagree with author in that I think that the Muslim religion deserves only the same level of respect that is afforded Christianity. I think that if every newspaper printed the stupid cartoons, the Muslims would have to either give up or pack it in and go back to live in a Muslim country, where they can live under Sharia law.
Islam is offensive when it is used to influence stupid young people to kill people...
"But if they want a Muslim country, then perhaps they should go and live in one."
Precisely the point. Denmark is governed by Danish law, not the law of an imam with a 12th century mind. And these cartoons were spread around the Muslim world by imams. If these supposed "holy men" want to inflame their fellow Muslims, then they should take the responsibility for the result.
To get respect, you must give respect...
They don't even respect themselves.
No, this is wrong and you do not have to be tolerant to the INtolerant...
I've seen the same thing from the Mexicans (La Raza) and we here in So Calif have done very little about it - nor has GW's administration.
We take secular pluralism more seriously than they do...what's his point?
The Daily Mirror is a leftist snot rag. It's the opposite of the Sun.
Don't let his pretence of criticizing Muslims for being antisemitic or holding signs avocating violence fool you. The Mirror is pro-French, pro-Socialist, and pro-Arab in its daily biases.
