Democrats in the state legislature have had a busy year so far. They have tried to keep the punishment for a person possessing 24 items of child pornography from qualifying as a felony, they have produced legislation to put a moratorium on the death penalty, and "One Bill Gil" re-introduced his pet bill to grant driver's licenses to illegal immigrants.
Senator Cedillo must have decided it was time to go for a new nickname, because today his legislation to give Cal Grants to illegal immigrants, SB 160, passed in the Senate 23-12.
Senator Cedillo's bill allows for illegal immigrants attending California colleges and universities to qualify to receive Cal Grants and other state financial aid as permitted by federal law. This could increase the cost of providing student financial aid by millions of dollars every year. Over time, the state would be responsible for an additional annual cost in the low ten millions as the number of eligible applicants increases and the maximum Cal Grant award rises.
There are already pending lawsuits over the fact that current state law allows for illegal immigrants to pay the lower in-state resident tuition when attending public colleges and universities that is not offered to legal citizens of out-of-state residents. Senator Cedillo's bill is likely to spark additional litigation and force taxpayers to pay for the defense of this inexcusable law.
Democrats in the Legislature have been quick to criticize Governor Schwarzenegger for not increasing education funding to satiate their uncontrollable spending desires even though he has proposed the largest budget for education in the history of the state this year. Amid all their blustering, these same Democrats voted to deny some hard-working California families access to the financial aid they need to send their children to college because illegal immigrants will now be eligible for funds from the same limited pot of money.
Will Democrats be calling their decision a "tax on the middle class" like they refer to other tuition and fee increases related to college and university expenses?
Senator Cedillo's bill passed through the Senate with absolutely no fanfare or debate. Democrats in the Assembly must do what's right for California families and vote "no" on SB 160.
California will be rid of this outstanding example of cultural corruption when, in 2010, he will be forced out of the Senate by term limits.
"California will be rid of this outstanding example of cultural corruption when, in 2010, he will be forced out of the Senate by term limits."
At this rate, by 2010, the only residents of California will be illegal. This guy could be Governor!
(Denny Crane: "I Don't Want To Socialize With A Pinko Liberal Democrat Commie. Say What You Like About Republicans. We Stick To Our Convictions. Even When We Know We're Dead Wrong.")
Illegals are going to college on our dollars and taking desks from our own children.
If illegals pay the same as residents, then students from other states should pay the same too.
Make it easy and charge everyone the same rate.
Does Gil go by any other first name? The California State Bar only shows two people with the surname of Cedillo licensed to practice law and neither one is named Gilbert.

For years they have been taking away entry level, and blue collar jobs from our children. They need a college education in order to be able to take better jobs from our children.
"Gilbert Cedillo got a full, minority ride to UClA. After graduation he got a night school law degree and then clerked for the ACLU. Prior to entering public service he was General Manager of the Service Employees International Union, Local 660 for 5 years. SEIU 660, located in LA, is largest foreign (Mexican) membership union in the US."
It's only discrimination if whites are getting better treatment. When minorities get favored treatment, it's "equality".
I thought he flunked the bar exam along with LA's mayor, Tony Villar.

That's a JD. Passing the State Bar is another matter.
Sorry the quote was appaerntly misleading.
Senator Cedillo obtained his Juris Doctorate from the People's College of Law in 1983.
From the People's College of Law website:
Come interact with activists and organizers from Peoples College of Law, the Labor Community Strategy Center, KPFK 90.7 FM and the National Lawyers Guild talk about their experience at the World Social Forum recently held in Caracas, Venezuela.
OK. I wasn't questioning that he got the degree, I was just wondering how useful it was. :^)
Senator Cedillo obtained his Juris Doctorate from the People's College of Law in 1983.
That's the same "college" where Villaraigosa got his law degree. I wonder how many of their graduates ever pass the bar and actually practice law?
I think I'll go web-surfing and see who sells the cheapest graduate degree. I'd like to hang one on my wall.
A google search on the address for the People's College of Law, 660 Bonnie Brae, would reveal the following in residence (or mailing address):
Hopefully not.
A proposed CA bill is so screwy that it seems destined to spread to other states. California State Senator Gil Cedillo has decided that illegal aliens with invalid drivers licenses should be off the hook in regards to vehicle impound laws.
Daily Bulletin staff writer Harrison Sheppard reported that California can compel a 30-day impound of vehicles, if drivers are caught without a valid CA drivers license. However, if Cedillo get his way, this law will not apply to illegal immigrants.
A previous Cedillo bill, the one geared toward giving illegal immigrants legal CA drivers licenses, was rescinded by CA Gov. Schwarzenegger. Apparently more than a little upset with the Governor, Cedillos new bill SB 591 essentially proposes that only legal US citizens be subject to the impound law and that illegals be exempt from them.
Cedillos proposed bill again exemplifies a usual and consistent problem that exists with all of the prior and current proposed pro-illegal alien legislations. These are geared to only one cultural class
illegals of Hispanic origin.
I found at least two graduates of the People's College of Law who passed the bar. They appear to have both run for Congress in the 37th District in 1992: Lawrence A. Grigsby(D) and B. Kwaku Duren (PF).
Grigsby has since been disbarred for "moral turpitude." Duren is Chairman of the New Panther Vanguard Movement (NPVM). Ahhh... the Black Panthers live on!
Thanks for doing that research.
As for "moral turpitude" ... I love it as it leaves so much to the imagination. No one is quite sure what you've done, but they do know that it wasn't anything good.
The Peace and Freedom party is located across the street from the People's College.
Here's a snip--and reference. It was from a leaflet distributed by the GI's and Vietnam Veterans Against the War.
FBI Files - Vietnam Veteran's Against the War GIVVAW HQ451697, Section 01.pdf, p. 11-12 Our Christmas party will be held at a secluded seaside residence ... and transportation will be provided from the central LA area. LOL. There was more detail, I just gave you the bottom line.

September 23, 2000
LAWRENCE ALLEN GRIGSBY [#106819], 54, of Los Angeles was disbarred Sept. 23, 2000, and was ordered to comply with rule 955.
In a default proceeding, the State Bar Court found that Grigsby did not comply with rule 955, as required by a 1998 order. He did not submit to the Supreme Court an affidavit stating that he notified his clients and other pertinent parties of his suspension from practice.
The 1998 discipline was the result of three consolidated cases in which Grigsby stipulated to failing to perform legal services competently, communicate with clients, refund unearned fees, properly handle entrusted funds or pay out client funds, respond to client inquiries, or cooperate with the bars investigation. He also improperly withdrew from employment. His acts constituted moral turpitude.
