If I understand correctly, these cartoons were part of a total anti-religious movement, not anti-Muslim bias. Jews and Christians just piss and moan about it or ignore it considering the source. That is not my understanding. My understanding is that they were brought about when someone writing a book about old Mo could not get it illustrated because all the artists he contacted were afraid of Muslim reaction. A newspaper (editor) then decided to run a series of cartoons depicting Mo, and not always in a negative way, as a protest. The rest, as is said, is history.
It's possible that that book was part of an anti religious series, but I had not read that anywhere. e.

Often it seems that freedom of the press in the West only pertains to issues concerning groups who aren't violent. If a group is violent, suddenly the press decides it would be in poor taste to publish it. I have to commend the Danish press for not being hypocritical.

Thats my understanding as well EG. Couldnt find a cartoonist brave enough so the paper put out a call for illustrations and printed the ones that came back.

It's possible that that book was part of an anti religious series, but I had not read that anywhere. It was for an illustrated children's book about the life of Mohammed.

From my understanding, it was a writer for the Jylland Posten(spelling?) newspaper wanting to find out if the fear of the mohammedans in the wake of the murder of the Van Gogh filmmaker was sufficient to suppress freedom of speech in Denmark.
He asked artists if they were willing to create pictures of the mad molester of children. Some took up the challenge and you see the end result. Blood thirst mohammedans howling and barking for the heads of the artists, the author, the Danes, and anyone who dares not crawl on their bellies to beg the mob of ravening mohammedans forgiveness for not being muzzie.
What wasn't predicted is the backbone the Danes have shown in facing down the beasts. Quite surprising really.

I can't wait to see how the Comics Journal covers this international story.
Haven't read the Comics Journal in years, but back then you could always count on them taking the hardest left-wing position possible. Then again they are rabidly pro-1st Amendment too, so it could be interesting. Are Gary Groth and Kim Thompson still involved with the magazine?

They were originally printed a few months ago, and were re-printed in Europe last week.

I am to the right of Attila the Hun, but I can't agree with you on that one. I've coached a number of youth teams. When my team is considerably better than the opposition, I've always "cleared the bench" when the lead became insurmountable. Why not put the subs, who work so hard in and gets little playing time, into the game? I expect the same courtesy from other coaches.
Having a superstar run up the score benefits no one - the superstar, teammates, parents or the opposition. Good sportsmanship is not liberalism.

It comes from living in the desert, and not being able to wash their hands. After squatting over a latrine or behind a bush, they would clean themselves with a stone with their left hand.

Why don't they just say "Allah will sort them out" if cartoons are so evil.
Aren't they blasphemizing Islam by taking their imaginary place of "Allah" and killing other people "for" him?

Find someplace to host it and in 2-3 weeks I can have a flash cartoon ready to go!

Never ceases to amaze me of how pathetic and hypocritical radical Islam is. I look at the cartoon and see a bowling ball with a string attached to it, that happens to be on fire. The average radical muslim sees it as their savior blowing himself up. Which btw...is true because otherwise why would the average radical muslim blow himself up other than to follow their savior? So, if the average radical muslim thinks its ok to blowhimself up, why would they get so pissed off seeing a cartoon of their savior blowing himself up? you would think they would praise the cartoon. I think its because they are so outraged and embarressed that a WHITE BOY drew the cartoon instead of one of their own. because if one of their own had drew it, he would've been put on a pedistol.

The cartoons were published 5 months ago!! The controversy has been stirred up by a bunch of western-based mullahs. The whole issue is a gigantic hoax.

Kind of strange the large number of Danish flags found on hand for burning in front of the TV cameras. At least some of those flags appeared very quickly made. You could see that the colors were just brushed onto white cloth. Still, even that took some organizing, but no more than producing a MOAB or mini MOAB for a FReep.
'Course FReepers don't burn down the places they are demonstrating.
BTW, I read somewhere that there was little damage to the Swedish or Danish embassies in Damascus, but the Chilean one is toast. Muzzies can't even hit the right target with a firebomb.
