That is a telling, though unsurprising, comparison.

Within moments, scuffles broke out between the converging ranks and missiles, including bottles, fireworks and tin cans, were thrown towards the police.
Instantly, the police responded with a flail of truncheons. For a moment, they resembled beaters driving birds towards guns. I can understand that response.
