Muslim group posts anti-Jewish cartoons on website as exercise in 'free speech.'
A Belgian-Dutch Islamic political organization posted anti-Jewish cartoons on its Web site in response to the cartoons of the prophet Mohammed that appeared in Danish papers last year and offended many Muslims.
The cartoons were posted on the Arab European League's site on Saturday. It was not working Sunday morning because of exceeded bandwidth.
The site carried a disclaimer saying the images were being shown as part of an exercise in free speech rather than to endorse their content - just as European newspapers have reprinted the Danish cartoons.
One of the AEL cartoons displayed an image of famed Dutch Holocaust victim Anne Frank in bed with Adolf Hitler, and another questioned whether the Holocaust actually occurred.
Dyab Abou Jahjah, the party's founder and best-known figure, defended the action on the Dutch television program Nova Saturday.
"Europe has its sacred cows, even if they're not religious sacred cows," he told the program.
Denying the Holocaust is illegal under most European hate speech laws, which outlaw intimidating or inciting hatred toward groups on the basis of their ethnic, cultural, religious or sexual identity. Complaints about alleged hate speech are common but prosecutions are rare and convictions very rare.
The AEL espouses nonviolence but has gained a reputation for extremist views, and opposes Muslims integrating with non-Muslims. It promotes the participation of Muslims in political dialogue in European countries, but is internally divided as to whether or not to participate in elections directly.
It stood in Belgian elections in 1999 and 2003 under different names but failed to get more than one percent of the vote. The Dutch arm has had problems finding a leader and has said it has no immediate plans to participate in elections.
On Sunday, violent demonstrations in protest of the cartoons continued in Beirut when an angry mob set fire to the Danish embassy in the captial. Security forces fired tear gas at the crowds and their weapons in the air in a desperate attempt to stop the onslaught.
Casualties, fires and damage of public property were reported.
The protest quickly degenerated into violence when groups of Islamic extremists tried to break through the security barrier, prompting troops to fire tear gas and water cannons from fire engines to try to disperse them, said the official.
Troops also fired repeatedly in the air and over the protesters heads to keep the protesters away. Witnesses said at least 10 injured protesters were carried away in ambulances.
Ruh-roh, Raggy.
The Danish underground during WW II saved countless Jews. It seems the Danish prople, when pushed into a corner, do fight back. Being so small they need our support. The blindness of the liberals is the same there.
Over on the mainland where Jyllands-Posten is published and where I lived for a couple of years, the attitudes are more conservative. Reminds me of Utah versus Salt Lake City.
The only image that would be better is the one from a few years ago of the "palestinian" moron posturing for several dozen photographers with the palestinian flag, and published prominently in Time and Newsweek...
Anybody got that image? I could have fun with that one!
It makes sense, really. The fastest way to undermine a demogogue is to ridicule him. This would have been predictable had we thought about it ahead of time.
Since the sum total of Islam is nothing but political demogoguery hidden behind a pseudo-religious figleaf, it is no wonder the billion ignorant savages who have had their lives sucked in by it would be defensive. Afer all, it isn't everyday that a thousand year old scam begins to crumble before your very eyes.
Ignorance + machismo x 1000 = Muslim fanaticism
Contributions are being accepted for humanitarian aid to "palestinians"... for art lessons
for some reason it won't open!
This cartoon thing with Muslims puts the whole "panties on the head" debacle into the proper perspective.
Someone shoukd get a pile of Korans, dump em in a football field somewhere, pour pig fat over em, call in the news crews and set fire to em. Let's see what happens then.
Much less destructive than burniung embassies.
The pics in my post? I don't know why. I use Firefox as a browser but I just logged on with Explorer and they opened up for me. ???
Has Bush condemned this yet? Muslims think they can do something like this, but when someone else does the same thing, they riot and protest. They realize that they can get their way by intimidation. They wouldn't riot in America because they KNOW the CITIZENS (NOT the Bush Administration), of America would kill them if they tried. The Jews didn't even have even a tiny part in the cartoon flap, and yet, they are the target of this hate campaign.
Man, is that ever an understatement...this stuff goes a hell of a lot further than the original cartoons, which I thought were rather lame...the new stuff? The Danes are fighting back...don't forget...if you're having a Super Bowl gathering, make sure Danish products have a place at the table!
Make them look at Porky Pig cartoons..
Make them look at Porky Pig cartoons..
Why not to add the insulting of Muhammad to the long list of hate/thought crimes? There is no much difference.
Cool stuff.
We are all forgetting that Islam is a Religion of Peace, Jimmy Carter told me so.
