Something vitally important is left out. Hellenistic (Western) Judeo-Christian values. Without the contribution of the Greeks and Romans, a democratic republic could not exist. Unless we are clear about the source of the ideals and values upon which Western civilization is based and know what we must defend, any confrontation with Islam will have muddled results at best, and possibly worse.
