The Allawites are a splinter sect of Sunni Islam. They're a Moslem tribe. The Ba'ath BS is just a cover. They're as socialist as the Gambino crime family.
Alawites are a group which splintered off of Shi'ite Islam. They believe in the 12th imam. Most Sunnis do not consider Alawites to even be Muslims.
