The Knight and the Archer had stepped into danger
from forest and battle and troll,
to captives were taken, and thus they awakened
to cast the adventure’s next roll.

The trolls broke camp in the dark and the damp
and the friends under guard were now led,
but their grins were careful and their spirits not fearful
for they really had little to dread,

For a plan they made right in the dead of the night
when the guards were all sleepy and dozed,
but the game must be played, and contrite captives they made,
and later, their chance arose.

For what came in sight, at the ending of night
and just as the dawn did encroach
on forest and tree, a path to the lee
of the castle the trolls did approach.

The Knight took a chance, and caught the Elf’s glance,
as across the weak drawbridge they went,
for as the gates swung wide and the party passed inside,
Elf’s voice to the trolls she sent!

The Elf’s vocal trick on the trolls acted quick,
and they soon began fighting each other,
shouting “Get to your place”, and “I’ll punch your face”,
and “take back what you said ‘bout my mother!”

The guards were confused by the Elf’s clever ruse,
and the friends then made their escape,
the Knight had it made, he stole back bow and blade,
and even the archer’s green cape!

”Well, we’re inside,” said the Archer with pride
at her cleverness and her slick deed,
”And the Jarl won’t be happy, at his guards, so sappy,
allowing new captives to flee!”

”By Jove, you did well!” The Knight said as well,
”but now, let’s move it, and quick,
we must keep our head in this troll’s homestead,
as we search ‘round this castle of brick,

“for the lasses are in need, so we must do the deed,
for the prisoners’ peril will rise,
when the trolls learn we’re gone, and the fight will be on
since we can’t count again on disguise.”

So, to the dark dungeons went our two companions
testing each latch and door,
when the Knight gave a heave on a door with his greave
and saw someone bound and laying on the floor…......
