I'm shocked! Shocked! Apparently, Exxon Mobil is making a profit on the sale of oil. Moreover, this energy company is telling anyone who's interested all about it. In fact, on January 31, news of their profits was the big story of the day. I did notice, however, there was no mention of the billions federal and state governments received in tax revenue on gasoline.

My guess is Exxon paid $135 billion in taxes paid.
I heard they paid $100 billion in 2004.
Thats not enough to stop the whiners.
The Alaska Natural Gas Pipeline project better get moving or the Feds will take over. Time is running short.
Because of those tax revenues, Congress won't do anything.
the government made a lot more money off the sale of Exxon's gasoline than Exxon ever did. Strange I don't hear calls for the government to return some of that cash.
In 1976, per-capita spending by the federal government was $1700 or so, in inflation-adjusted dollars. Any guesses as to what it was in 2000?
Make that 2005....
And they were under their earnings estimates.
But the banking industry makes the twice the profit on each dollar that oil companies do. Why aren't they accused of gouging?
And what, pray tell, should they be doing.
