Isn't there a joke that explains the reason why?

Saddam Hussein calls George Bush to complain about Star Trek.

He says “I have seen every episode and I have seen black people, Asian people, klingons, in fact every species imaginable, but I have never ever seen a Muslim on Star Trek, explain to me why not.”

George W. replies, “It’s set in the future you idiot!”
