A teenager who visits us frequently recently confided to my wife that she was concerned about one of her close friends. This girl was about 14-15 and unusually attractive. She hopes to be a model (quite plausible) and had put pictures of herself on myspace. Having seen these, many older men were contacting her with sexually suggestive comments. She doesn't have a father at home and her mother doesn't seem to keep a close enough eye on her. There was some concern that she was starting to communicate with these men.

Our babysitter didn't want to get her friend in trouble, but was also worried about her. It was decided that my wife would speak to the mother, which apparently was helpful.

You've just hit on the root of many such problems...poor or nonexistent parenting.
