Shirley Phelps-Roper, an attorney with the Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, on Thursday evening said some members of the congregation plan to hold a peaceful protest starting at 10:30 a.m. Saturday outside of the West Alexander Presbyterian Church in West Alexander, Pa., which is where Hunter’s funeral service is scheduled to he held at 11 a.m.

Sure, if you consider incitement to riot to be a peaceful protest. Someone needs to teach these clowns the meaning of "fighting words".

Everyone should know that.

Should know that the congregation of the Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, that is, has spent the past 1,300 years mass-murdering more scores of millions of innocents than you can count on all of your fingers and all of your toes.

[In the meanwhile, until everyone does know that Baptists are interchangeable with mass-murdering muslims, if I was you I'd be on the lookout for long needle bearing men in white coats]

While doing a search to see if this article had been posted, I noticed there are some attempts around the country to ban protests at funerals. While these folks seem to be "moonbatty," I believe banning them from exercising their 1st Amendment Rights would be just as wrong as banning protests at abortion clinics.

Reasonable people can have reservations about homosexuality and its morality. But these people are, as someone else already noted, about as authentically Christian as the Klan. They are simply evil. Thank God I am an Orthodox Christian.

It depends. If the funeral is on private property (and most funerals are), the proprietor has every right to boot protestors out.

You may exercise your first amendment rights on my property if I so allow.

I would have to disagree. As I mentioned in my previous post, there is such a thing as "fighting words". The First Amendment does have its limits in extraordinary circumstances (cue the famous "yelling fire in a crowded theater" arguement). I think this is one of those cases where it might not be such a bad idea. Although, in an ideal world I would agree with you.

The problem is that the Founding Fathers envisioned a society where people would know to act in a moral and responsible manner in sensitive situations. However...what's the saying? Make something idiot-proof and they'll build a better idiot.

I agree. You don't have a right to do something that is likely to provoke an otherwise reasonable person to violence. I seem to recall that these wing nuts also protested at the funeral of that kid who got killed up in Wyoming a number of years ago. The name escapes me but I am sure someone will fill in the blank. Everyone thought he was murdered because he was gay (and that has become highly debatable). But the point is the kid was murdered in circumstances that were beyond barbaric and his family was of course devastated. And here come these Nazis disguised as Baptists (I know a lot of Baptists and they wouldn't have anything to do with these clowns), holding up signs and shouting at the mother that her son is roasting hell and got what he deserved. These people are depraved.

I understand the property thing but anti-abortion protesters are even kept from public property. The precedent has been set.

I think you are giving credit where it is not due. Although I am not a Baptist I know a lot of people who are. And not a single one would call these people Christian much less acknowledge them as being in the same church as them.

I think they had the forethought to know they couldn't envision everything. It's why they included the first ten amendments with the constitution.

I hope the new court reverses the 200' (or whatever it is) ban at abortion clinics. It would be a start.

I saw this trash "demonstrating" outside the National Cathedral where Ronald Reagan's funeral services were held. They commandeered the corner so they could greet Nancy REagan's limo with signs in huge letters saying "God Hates Fags" and "Fag Lovers Go to Hell". They are not Christian nor decent in any way; for them to do this to the soldier's or Mrs. King's funeral shows them for the low-rent scum that they are.
