Oooh the Midwich Cuckoos! I think I read all of John Wyndham's books as a young teenager. They were great reads, well above the level of most pulp sci-fi. It wasn't until much later that I realized that they were often a vehicle for leftist and peacenik ideas (the Kraken is Mother Earth striking back against nukes, the Triffids are actually superweapons gone wrong, religion in The Chrysalids is oppressive fundamentalism) but they're still ripping yarns. His very best work (IMHO of course) is the novella Consider Her Ways (which can be read online by clicking that link). It's an amazingly prescient story about an all-female world run by feminists that first appeared in print in 1960. Much better entertainment than reading about Indigo Children.
