The US needs to get out in front of the situation in the former Soviet "Stans". We need to support real democratic reforms. The people currently see dictators on the one hand and Islamists on the other. We need to offer them a viable third option.

What a wonderful choice: Stalinists, Kleptocrats, or Islamists.
Liberal Democracy will only become an option if the people are ready for it. Otherwise, they will vote in Hizb al-Tahir.
I'd love to see a liberal Pan-Turkism be reborn in a country that contains Tashkent, Samarkhand, Bukhara, and Urganj.
