It's interesting that early firearms on the battlefield led to the demise of armor since it wasn't practical to wear heavy enough armor to stop bullets. Now we've developed new, lighter armor and its use is widespread again.

Next: power-assisted and climate-controlled suits of armor that change color like a chameleon to match the surroundings.
