Washington, DC - RNC Chairman Ken Mehlman issued the following statement on the election of Congressman John Boehner of Ohio as Majority Leader of the U.S. House of Representatives.
Congratulations to Congressman Boehner on his election as Majority Leader. This is a good decision for the future of the House and the Republican agenda in Congress. Congressman Boehner is a proven leader with a steadfast commitment to the Republican Party, and President Bushs conservative agenda. I look forward to working with him to enact a positive agenda and protect our majority in the U.S. House of Representatives.
This process provided a unique opportunity to formally discuss the important issues within our party, and within the House Republican Conference. In the end, Republican Members of Congress chose a highly capable leader to help guide the American peoples business through 2006 and beyond.
On behalf of the party, I thank Congressman Roy Blunt and Congressman John Shadegg for raising important issues during their campaign for the House Majority Leaders office. Their continued leadership is very important to our party, and the country.
Ronnie Earle has to be made to pay the full price for this crap.
The RNC needs to publish material on the other House newly elected leaders. The House should have replaced Hastert. The Old boys club even there will not go to full reform. Drier is not really the person to lead this reform movement and if there is any taint of Jack A on any of these guys, the Pubs will suffer. This entire session ought to be a full court press by the House Gop to bring reform and agendas stressing the old Contract which was not passed during Newt's days.
Hopefully in 2007 the Texas legislature will remove his ability to prosecute state and federal officials and move it to the Attorney General's office.
Good but not good enough. Something needs to come down on Earle like a ton of bricks and if Republicans can't make that happen they've got a problem.
