Unlike Ann, I did not viciously attacker Harriet Meirs, I knew something was afoot behind the scenes with her bizarre nomination.

As you know Ann makes a fine living calling people names, and she does have a thick skin, even if her physical appearance is mere thick skin and bones.

It is disturbing that Bush had no perception that Miers was a relative airbrain.

Yes it is. It makes me think that maybe there was some real substance behind the rumors that Karl Rove was distracted by the Fitzgerald probe and some health problems, and was thus completely off his game and unable to pull Bush to the side and say "Are you nuts?" re Miers.

One thing known about Bush is his intense loyalty to his friends, and that kind of loyalty can sometimes blind a person to a friend's shortcomings.

Hmmm???
Calling someone unqualified is now a vicious attack?
You knew something was afoot? It was a secret plan?
No, it was a political blunder and GW Bush has made a few.
I repeat I am a Conservative 1st a republican 2nd.

and for her to voluntarily "take one for the team" like that strains credibility.

Not really.
If she knew going into it that was coming at her, that its "part of the game", that it would help get Alito confirmed (and it did, there is no denying that), then it's very credible.

Like I said, Coulter and Laura Ingrahan were out of the loop, so the degree of their abusiveness was that of an uninformed 3rd party - KRove did not send AnnC talking points of "the plan".

It isn't the butt kissing...it is the wishing they were kissing that butt...doesn't matter to some here (i like her too) if she said the moon was green cheese and Art Bell should immediately be appointed Ambassador to Mars (he prolly should) they will love her anyway. (or at least hyperventilate when they see her)

*PING!

OMG...get a load of this one...talk about drinking the Kool-Aid...

Uh, no Ann, your dead wrong... unless by "every Republican" you mean the very vocal minority who were used as usefull idiots in Karl Roves's well laid plan....

Nothing like 'Bot revisionist history..right gang?

Those fights over "Harriet the Maid" were just some Bush/Rovian "strategery"...calling all of us who questioned her nomination "eeee-litists"...sexists...unappeaseables...DU TRolls (one of MY favs...), alienating Conservatives to the point we stopped drinking from the "Cult of Bush" chalice long enough to start to question a LOT of things!

Is there no low the "Cult of Bush" will sink to? To claim it was some "Cunning Plan" like Baldric from BlackAdder ain't gonna cut it folks!

"HM was nominated to pre-activate the base and unknowingly Ann played right into the role KRove had penciled her in for.

Ann was ignorant of KRove's well laid plan, that's what I mean by "useful idiot"."

Nothing like 'Bot revisionist history..right gang?

I got a couple of Christmas cards from the Bush Whitehouse in the first couple of years but I got dropped off that list probably when I sent some really harsh letters about his shamnesty plans.

I suppose if I had been on that list, I might have gotten the email from Karl Rove to pretend like I was a huge Harriet Miers supporter for a couple of weeks after the nomination like so many of the 'Bots did.

Now I am feeling kind of sheepish about how cleverly I got used in that masterful scheme. /sarc

I'm not exactly sure what splitting the GOP into angry factions accomplished from the White house perspective though. I think it might have increased the chances of blocking a shamnesty so from my perspective it worked out fairly well.

"I just have never been comfortable with the theory that Bush used Miers to set up the Alito nomination."

and you shouldnt be. only an idiot would suggest this.
i guess karl rove told ed gillespie to go out there and label critics of this nomination as 'sexist and elitist'. i guess karl rove created the so called "miscommunication" about griswold that happened when she met with specter. there were tons of other examples on how it wasnt another "rove rope a dope", but the revisionists here will claim otherwise.

gee, i wonder if the open borders is just another rovian manuever designed to get the base fired up for 2006? /major sarcasm

Why the heck can't we just post the whole article these days? I'm tired of having to open up a second window just to finish a column or article.</rant>

I'll rain on her parade for you.

The elite Republican Guard are the ones running this "insurgency". Afer all, if they can't find OBL or Zach-a-somebody, seems a bunch of lower echelon soldiers could remain at large.

I prefer to call it a low grade civil war.

The weapons caches they're finding recently have been stored probably for years.

It's not rocket science.

Our recent history in Viet Nam and Clinton's approach to several horrendus terror attacks pre 9-11 told Saddam & Sons to give us what our Colonists gave to the British Army.

Heaven forbid somebody would hide in a tree and shoot you.

We all understand why this aministration can't afford to say this and prefer to label them from Al Quada.

I can't believe the Democrats aren't claiming this scenario.

(Of course the flip side is we could simply tell them then the war isn't over yet.) ;^)

I absolutely LOVE President Bush, but that's the way I'm calling it.

Nah, not kool-aid, I would attribute it to Achems Razor.

Um..it's >"Occam's Razor".

The principle of which is "one should not make more assumptions than the minimum needed."

So, when faced with 2 choices...

1) Bush and Rove screwed up when they thought they could get away with nominating a crony to the Supreme Court.

2) Bush and Rove are the "Wile E. Coyotes" of political "strategery", and what happened was incredibly calculated, and was executed so flawlessly, that even today some of Harriet Miers opponents have left the "Cult of Bush" and are now not "Team Players" (and THAT was planned too!) and criticize each and every Administration mistake (which too, are all planned!)!

Hmm.......

Only because of the grassroots revolt against Miers were Republicans in Washington finally forced to face their worst nightmare.

Terror, thy name is Samuel Alito. Or as he is now known: "Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito."

I call it my "crackdown special"
.. well Ann...are you having fun?...are you serious?......."YES"!

What I find disturbing is how many Republicans were willing to settle. I was against Harriet from Day 1

Me too. On the morning the announcemment was made, my first reaction was 'WHO?????' Extremely disappointed. Opportunities for SCOTUS appointments don't come along very often, and you think the President would have learned from his father's experience with David Souter.

Guess we'll never know, as I don't expect either the President or Rove to reveal the whole truth, even in their memoirs.
