Hi All-

Thailand is a beautiful and hospitable country to visit. The people are very kind and the food is absolutely fantastic. The vast majority of people you encounter on the street will try their best English as long as you attempt your best Thai communication. Just remember to "wai" to show decorum and respect.

Stick to northern locations like Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Chiang Rai and there won't be any problems. Thai military forces ensure there are no problems in the Phuket region. Enjoy your visit. Kop khun kop!

yet when we were handing out aid for the Tsunami the sentiment against Americans was totally different - even in Phuket. Seems to me I remember much hostility, even as we were handing out water and supplies.

My father told me Vietnam was beautiful when he was there in '66 and '68. That didn't mean that we were welcome there or that it was a vacationer's paradise.

Sorry, blue jays, I think I'll wait for the radicals to come to their senses and realize that there is good to be had in cultural diversity.

Hi Immigration Lady-

I can't tell from your post whether you've been to Thailand or not...but you'll find there is a huge difference between the northern and southern regions of the country.

The majority of the country is Buddhist and Christian with the exception of the far south...which is exactly where the problems, and Muslims, are found.
