"I for one don’t think we stop illegal immigration by strangling the small businesses that are the backbone of our economy. Nor do I believe it is right to turn small business owners into felons for failing to do the federal government’s job of protecting the borders. Had it not been for this one section, I would have supported the bill."

From this it must certainly follow that Boehner would oppose any strengthening of measures designed to hold all businesses (Big & small) liable for hiring illegal aliens.

Since strong enforcement of the law against hiring of illegals is a significant part of any credible immigration reform legislation, Boehner is on the wrong side of this issue.

If he maintains this stance, conservatives will not want to support him.

Absolutely correct, Czar. Well said.

Conservatives will be keeping a close eye on John Boehner. In the short term we'll get a good idea of what he's all about. I think it was Gipper08 who said he was a Boehner constituent. He says Boehner is pro-immigration. We shall see.
