McCain is not trying to warm up to Conservatives, he is trying to force Conservatives to give up what brought them into power: Not giving Democrats an inch. How would electing Shadegg have been giving them an inch?

Not saying it would. I was fine with Shadegg, but I am not for anything McCain supports, unless it is also supported by the President. McCain is a crazy MF'er.

How would electing Shadegg have been giving them an inch? Shadegg would have been fine, but Boehner was a better pick, IMO.
He was the sole member of the Republican leadership to vote against the pork-laden Highway Bill, and he has solid conservative credentials.
