Given that it's Oscar time, I nominate the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for Best Bunch of Hypocrites. Thats because this years dirty little secret is the anecdotal evidence pouring in to me about hetero members being unwilling to screen Brokeback Mountain. For a community that takes pride in progressive values, its shameful that Hollywoods homophobia may be on a par with Pat Robertsons.
Despite the hype youre reading in the press and on the Internet about Brokeback, with its eight nominations, being the supposed favorite to take home the Best Picture Oscar on March 5, Crash could end up winning. The issue isnt which film is better. The issue is more like which movie was seen by the Academy. Frankly, I find horrifying each whispered admission to me from Academy members who usually pose as social liberals that theyre disgusted by even the possibility of glimpsing simulated gay sex. Earth to the easily offended: This movie has been criticized for being too sexually tame. Hey, Academy, what are you worried about: that youll turn gay or, worse, get a stiffie by just the hint of hunk-on-hunk action?

My favorite line in the article:
"Overall, Tinseltowns never been so proud to be savaged by right-wing punditry. That is, everywhere but at ABC, the award shows broadcaster, where suits are tearing out their hair plugs anticipating in-the-cellar ratings because of the celeb polemics, the lack of blockbusters among the nominees, host Jon Stewart bitch-slapping Dubya, Dick Cheney and parent company Disneys CEO Bob Iger."
Nice to know the ABC suits are worried. They should be. The Oscars have turned into crap.
Its Oscar time ? Who knew ?
Who's Oscar?
Better question: who cares?
How gay?
As you walk down the red carpet you will be overwhelmed by the smell of hair gel and AstroGlide!
Move the Oscars to the LOGO channel.
All of these awards (Cannes, Golden Globes, Oscars) say more about the people voting on the awards than they say about the quality of the films.
Well, at least the author admits that most liberals in Hollywood are hypocrites.
But I have a news flash for the author. The title of the article shouldn't be How Gay Wll the Oscars Go? But How Much Gayer Can They Get? As Chris Rock astutely pointed last year as host: "The Oscars are gay."
And I just don't care how well made a movie "Bareback Mount Him" may be, how deft the script is (I have been a fan of Larry McMurtry for years) but I cna't stomach watching two men having sex.
I used to really enjoy watching the Oscars, and being up to date on entertainment news, but now it's all about fashion, which I couldn't care less about.
I just don't care who is wearing what.
This year will be the first time in a long time I won't be watching the Oscars. I think low ratings may send a clear message that mainstream America isn't falling for Hollywood's gay agenda.
Though I could be wrong. Two weeks ago saw the highest ratings for the Golden Globe Awards ever.
I can see something like this happening: der flammenwerfer

My guess is a pink three dollar bill.
What is an Oscar and why should I even care.
I could stare at garbage molding in the wastebasket and get more enjoyment than watching that program.
Turning the TV off and mute buttons, I use those options often.
Why do people watch this crap (the Oscars)?
How many awards shows do actors have these days anyways?
Youd be hard pressed to find any other profession so profoundly hung up on awarding itself.
The Oscars make me grouchy. What utter trash.
Lib politicos do it all the time. Its called Self Congratulations as Social Policy.
Well I have bad news and good news...
The bad news is Heath Ledger is now Barney Frank's bitch!
The good news is Heath won't be making any more films!
Its Oscar time? Who cares?
Oscar is hollywood's "Golden Calf" (see Exodus 20) that they all bow down and worship!
for make-believe play in front of a camera. How friggin useless are actors.
