America's 'Masada Complex'
Omega Letter ^ | Jack Kinsella

Posted on 02/02/2006 7:37:28 AM PST by jackv

One of the most not-so-secret secret military contingency plans on earth is that of Israel in response to an outside nuclear attack. It's called the 'Samson Option'...

The liberal left seems to have adopted its own version of the Masada Complex as a deliberate part of its political strategy, apparently balancing short term political gain against long term national strategic damage and concluding it a worthwhile exchange.

All the usual suspects came out recently following Al Gore's unhinged speech slamming the US government as a 'grave danger' to world peace.

Gore told his audience, “As we begin this new year, the executive branch of our government has been caught eavesdropping on huge numbers of American citizens . . . without regard to the established law enacted by Congress precisely to prevent such abuses. . . etc., blah, blah."

The NSA doesn't eavesdrop on 'huge numbers' of American citizens. It eavesdrops on EVERYBODY. Every phone call is intercepted electronically, but only those that use certain trigger words get further scrutiny.

As noted earlier, Gore has either become completely unhinged or is woefully ignorant of US history. FDR imprisoned tens of thousands of Japanese-Americans in internment camps during WWII. Nobody considered his impeachment.

He can't be ignorant of the fact that the Clinton-Gore administration defended the use of warrant less searches (including physical searches) as vigorously as it defended its right to invade Yugoslavia in defiance of both the UN and the US Congress.

That only leaves the conclusion that Al Gore is so blinded by his personal Masada Complex that he's lost his mind. The problem is, Gore's Masada Complex is shared by most of his Democratic co-religionists.

We can marvel at this democrat party selfish short-sightness at the expense of national security (indeed national survival) until the cows come home. But 50 million Americans will still go vote for a democrat for President in 2008. And people like Ted Kennedy, Chuck Schumer, HILLARY, Cynthia McKinney, Shelia Jackson-Lee, Barbara Boxer, Mary Landrieu, Nancy Pelosi..... will continue to be re-elected.

Al Gore was less than 500 votes away from being our President and John Kerry was within 3 million votes of being President.

(It has become a Democratic article of faith that one can tear down one's government without damaging one's country.)

Worth reading the whole thing.

I'm unclear on the reference - I always interpreted Masada as "better suicide than surrender."

#1 Sampson Option - Let's all die.
#2 Masada Complex - Let's just us die.

I vote for option #3.

Well yes, but if we are going to die anyway, I vote for option one, taking the bastards with us. That is the Samson option, or for that matter.

Still the best option is to do to them before they can do to us. Hence the invasion of Iraq, and possible future actions WRG to Iran, Syria, etc.

Last I heard, they only eavesdrop on calls that cross the national border.

Excellent read! This illustrates very handily how very differently Israel views it's strategic interests as opposed to how the US views them.

Al Gore was less than 500 votes away from being our President and John Kerry was within 3 million votes of being President.

Kerry was a lot closer than that. He only needed a little more voter fraud in a couple of the close swing states. He had enough to carry Wisconsin and PA.
