Really.. The only thing that can teach the Democrats is to actually leave them behind.

Which makes me think that in future elections the Democrats will push for a weighted system for counting the votes.

Some votes will be weighted differently based on the race, religion, gender, and economic disadvantage. Naturally, Liberal constituents would receive the greatest handicap... To make up for the lack of rapport between Democrats and mainstream America.

The historical titans Roosevelt, Truman, and Kennedy all understood in the marrow of their bones that liberating the human soul by working tirelessly for freedom and justice was a goal worth pursuing for a great Party and a great nation.

Oh please. FDR was the worst thing that ever happened to this country and if JFK hadn't been bumped off, we'd be living in a smoking hole in the ground.

Truman was kind of cool though. I love it that the only president to nuke someone was a democrat.

I concur with almost all of this article. The Democratic Party lost it's backbone when Jimmy Carter was elected. Clinton was actually a small improvement over Carter, be he was still more focused on his own self interest than what was right or wrong.

I would like to add that Roosevelt, Truman, and Kennedy did have the backbone denied of their modern day RAT successors, but to some degree all three failed in preserving against the Soviet Union. Roosevelt admirably led us in the fight against Fascism and Nazism, but failed in dealing with the Soviet Union, likely due to having too many Communist sympathizers as advisers or pure traitors like Alger Hiss in the State Department. Truman had the fortitude to use the A-Bomb to save a million Americans that would possibly die invading Japan, however, his limited "no victory" strategy in the last two years of the Korean War demonstrated that the Soviet Union and China could go after out allies and interests anywhere, and we would only seem containment, not victory. JFK was not President that long, but his meekness was misread by Kruschev leading to the Cuban missile crisis (also failed Bay of Pigs invasion where he pulled back on air-support).

Eisenhower let it be known that he would not sit still and allow the Korean War to continue as it had; Nixon did bomb Hanoi and Haiphong, which lead to a peace agreement that was submarined later by congressional Democrats. LBJ's limited war strategy (copied from Truman) failed miserably. Then of course Ronald Reagan went beyond Jimmy Carter's timid and spineless policies to seek victory over the Soviet Union through supporting dissidents and trade unions in Eastern Europe, and aggressively denying additional Communist victories in Africa and Latin America.

In this respect, the Democratic Party has truly lost its way. The historical titans Roosevelt, Truman, and Kennedy all understood in the marrow of their bones that liberating the human soul by working tirelessly for freedom and justice was a goal worth pursuing for a great Party and a great nation. Nowadays, their successors have made cowering in the face of threats, genuflecting to tyrants, and timidity in engaging the world beyond our shores a large part of their party’s platform.

This doesn’t necessarily explain why history passed the Democrats by, except that it revealed what happens when a party’s energies are directed toward maintaining power rather than trying to solve the nation’s problems.

Fantastic article. Thanks for posting it.

"Our fictitious federal program to help Democrats adjust to their status as a minority party and drag them into the 21st century would necessarily involve much pain and suffering. It would mean our leftist friends would have to give up cherished beliefs and a wrongheaded worldview. But this would only be a first step. For in trying to relearn the history of the last 30 years, Democrats would be forced to confront the consequences of their obstructionism. And perhaps, just perhaps, at the very least they could learn how to get out of the way of history rather than trying to hamper our efforts to change it."

Of course my gut reaction is please don't feed the animals. In other words, let them figure it out for themselves. But does it truly serve America to have the Dems chasing their own tails? The only way the party can come back is if it has the guts to weed out the wackos who hold the party hostage. Unfortunately, there are too few good conservative Dems left to clean the zoo grounds.

This article missed an all important truth about the Democrat Party. Democrats claim to represent “Mainstream” America, but a close look at the Democrat constituency reveals it to be nothing more than a loose cabal of godless communists, socialists, traitors, abortionists, felons, perverts, race baiters, parasites, pseudo intellectual elitists, and the feeble minded. To our everlasting shame, the last two presidential elections have shown that almost half of our voting population fall into this category.

What if we just lobotomized the whole wretched lot.It would be a one-time expense and we would be done with it.
