Our computers aren't constantly backed up to expensive servers, and our email doesn't go through the processes that email in any government agency with lots of confidential information goes through. Chances are, email may not even be stored on the local machines in the WH (why risk somebody walking off with a laptop with all kinds of sensitive information).
I wouldn't be surprised if most of the computers in the WH are terminals to begin with.
You and I also aren't governed by federal laws in regards to archiving any and all transactions/communications.

I've recently lost a year's worth of emails via Outlook .. it's now corrupted and unreliable, and I haven't got a clue why. Every time I open the program, it says "the location for this account has changed." Stuff happens with software, for sure.
