WASHINGTON -- While jumping up on cue to cheer during the speech and delivering rave reviews afterward in the Capitol's Statuary Hall, conservative members of Congress were deeply disappointed by George W. Bush Tuesday night. It was not merely that the president abandoned past domestic goals. He appeared to be moving toward bigger government.
The consensus on the Right was that President Bush's fifth State of the Union Address was his worst. Republican congressmen agreed privately that he was most effective at the beginning with his familiar message of why U.S. forces cannot abandon Iraq. The problem for these lawmakers was the rest of the 51-minute presentation, which was filled with unpleasant surprises.

No doubt about it. The elite conservatives like Novak hold disdain for isolated kibitzers like thae pajamahadeen and Freepers like me. Ordinary common folk, without a pointed head. I don't know why you lower yourself to post here.
No person, let alone ANY president, is perfect. If you actually took the time to read the replies, of those whom you claim say that, you might have the shock of your life! I, for one, have complained, right here on FR, about things that President Bush has said or done, that I did NOT agree with.

Yes, we have been busy celebrating OUR victories. Sorry for you and yours.
FreeRepublic!
"What do you real conservatives want? A complete dismantling of the government?
I know your answer"
If you KNOW the answer, then why ask?
I want our borders secured! I want illegals booted out of OUR country. I do not want my tax dollar to go to people who are in this country breaking our laws. In most ways, G.W. has met my expectations, but in this area, he has been a real diappointment.
Bob Novak belongs to the Paddy Buchanan/Hamas wing of
the no war party
Always!
please insert the "s" wherever needed...LOL
Indeed! Hi girlfriend!
You're right. We're failures. Can't seem to get this border closed, or our immigration laws enforced.
How naive of us to expect our elected leaders to uphold their oath and our laws...
Golly, you're scary!
It was deport!
IIRC, the Donner Party appellation started here during the California governors race.
It is always about YOU. The rest of us demand government cheese, money, and the finest wimmenfolk too ;0)
Should have known....ROFL!!!
Thanks!
"Yep, Alan Keyes got a stack of votes this high."
It is disappointing that Fox has hired the gloom and doom of Bob Novak. He never has a kind or optimistic thing to say for the GOP...no wonder CNN kept him on so long as their "token conservative".
I don't believe you.
Show me the money.
