Conservatives Disappointed with Bush 'State of the Union' Speech
The National Ledger ^ | 2-2-06 | Robert Novak

Posted on 02/01/2006 9:51:00 PM PST by Coastal

WASHINGTON -- While jumping up on cue to cheer during the speech and delivering rave reviews afterward in the Capitol's Statuary Hall, conservative members of Congress were deeply disappointed by George W. Bush Tuesday night. It was not merely that the president abandoned past domestic goals. He appeared to be moving toward bigger government.

The consensus on the Right was that President Bush's fifth State of the Union Address was his worst. Republican congressmen agreed privately that he was most effective at the beginning with his familiar message of why U.S. forces cannot abandon Iraq. The problem for these lawmakers was the rest of the 51-minute presentation, which was filled with unpleasant surprises.

"...it is NOT Bush that is the real problem."

Does that mean that Bush and his administration are powerless to request Congress to make a law to close the border between the U.S. and Mexico? Your explanation puts Bush in the position of having to pander to the businesses which benefit from the cheap labor.

I got a bit ( okay, more than a bit. LOL ) slowed down, because I had to look at ALL of the links. But yes, you're right, I do fall behind and have to play catchup, a lot, on threads.

At first I said "rectangular," but then I realized almost all of it is rectangular.

USB is great: fast, smart, reliable, universal.

Thankfully, we won;t have to worry about Alan's reparations.

The Prescription Drugs are LAW.

And, I guess you'll have to keep wondering about a veto.

There is a BEST BUY and the other one ( I forget the name ) a town over. I'll have my husband take me to them. THANKS, again, for all of your kind and thoughtful help. :-)

I wonder if Keyes' version of Reparations would cost as much as Bush's Prescription Drug Entitlement will.

Apples and oranges.

Evidently at least 50 Republicans were for the drug program.

and ZERO Republicans (except for Keyes, who doesn't have a vote) were for reparations.

One reason drugs are so high is because of Class action law suits, and other liability laws. Did you know that the Clintons forced all manufacturing of vaccines out of the country, due to there limiting the price without limiting the liability? The liberal are out to destroy our medical plans to force us to except socialized medicine. The we will be at under there control, and under the control of the crazes. Once the Government has a stake in your health, see how fast they will penalize you for smoking tobacco, or eating fast food. WE NEED LESS GOVERNMENT INTERFERENCE IN HEALTH CARE, NOT MORE.

Before I go, one last post on substance, since substance is so sorely lacking on this thread:

As expected, Bush backed away from what a year earlier were labeled as the two great initiatives of his second term. He complained that "Congress did not act last year on my proposal to save Social Security," unintentionally setting off self-congratulatory celebration by Democrats on the floor. But Bush made no promises about trying to revive his personal accounts. The president did not even give the comprehensive tax reform the courtesy of a death notice. It went unmentioned and apparently unmourned.

By the way, USB only fits one way.

If you try to push it in and it won't go, flip the connector over and plug it in the ohter way.

And now she has the nerve to scream about the vaccines not being readily available. It's amazing to see.

Pandering to one group or another is part of the job description of a politician.
