Conservatives Disappointed with Bush 'State of the Union' Speech
The National Ledger ^ | 2-2-06 | Robert Novak

WASHINGTON -- While jumping up on cue to cheer during the speech and delivering rave reviews afterward in the Capitol's Statuary Hall, conservative members of Congress were deeply disappointed by George W. Bush Tuesday night. It was not merely that the president abandoned past domestic goals. He appeared to be moving toward bigger government.

The consensus on the Right was that President Bush's fifth State of the Union Address was his worst. Republican congressmen agreed privately that he was most effective at the beginning with his familiar message of why U.S. forces cannot abandon Iraq. The problem for these lawmakers was the rest of the 51-minute presentation, which was filled with unpleasant surprises.

You'd know that if you ever listened to anything but your own voice.

Oh, wow; what a comeback; damn near cut me to the bone.

OH-OH, you're in trouble now --- mentioning Alan's REPARATIONS speech!

Yep, that Keyes is a REAL conservative. /sarc

I know that I am correct ...

But you can't substantiate your assertion. Too bad. I've been looking for the genesis of "Donner Party" as applied to paleocons/100%'ers, and all you have to offer is promise of a memory.

and all you're after is a flame war

That would be a bounus. But you can't even do that for shit.

I disagreed with Alan about reparations.

Said so here, as you know.

Zippety-do-dah. Never met anyone yet I agreed with completely on every single thing. Alan comes close, but like all of us, he's human.

So, here's your chance to disagree with the President. What do you think about his spending policies, Howlin? Think maybe he should have vetoed a bill or two?

LOL...nah, they're harmless keyboard warriors.

That is so funny! We're almost as harmless as keyboard warriors as you are as a campaign adviser!

I've explained and explained to you, that trying to get me to do a link, by baiting and goading and insulting, is like trying to get blood out of a turnip. *sigh*

Yep, ALL you want is a flame war! Ain't gonna happen; sweetums. :-)

Phyllis Schlafley`s agenda could elect a dog checker. She is all about raising $$ for her committees and cares little about the future of the country. If she did, she would shut her mouth and work inside the party. Course, that won`t raise the big bucks.

This thread is sounding a bit silly, but ah what the hell! Sometimes it's fun to have a good brawl, even if it IS pointless.

"If Novak talked now about the Plame case what is the worst that would happen to him ?"

I know that freedom to gather information is part of the Constitution's guarantee of free speech. Novak does not want to cause his 40 year career as a reporter to be soiled from revealing a source. Such would be a cardinal sin for the profession he is in. The liberal press would try to run Novak out of town on a rail for violating a cardinal rule.

Novak believes that the Bush Administration already knows who his source is. It would surprise him if President Bush does not know. However, Novak could, on conditions of the same anonymity he gives his source, tell the President who his source is and clear this entire mess up. The Administation could then say, they suspected who the source was all along, but need a few more facts to be sure. That would get Novak off the hook and put this saga behind us.
