Mayor Nagin was testifying before the House today on C-Span and I watched about an hour of it. The guy was clearly caught in a couple of lies and is too stupid to know it.
Rep. Susan Collins (?) asked why Nagin had decided on a mandatory evacuation on Saturday but didn't release the information to the public until Sunday -- 24 hours later.
Nagin's answer was so rambling it was difficult to follow, but he tried to say he hadn't talked to Max Mayfield, the Weather channel guy, until late Saturday night, so it wasn't really 24 hours that he waited to announce the mandatory evacuation.
Collins came back with that Nagin's own staff testified and provided written documentation that the decision for the evacuation was made Saturday MORNING so it was indeed a vital 24 hours that Nagin delayed making the announcement.
It was a pathetic performance by Nagin.
He was relying on a weather guy's info? For crying out loud.
