Canadian officials dispute the U.S. version of an event in Iraq and insist that American soldiers fired without warning on a consular vehicle carrying four Canadian diplomats, CBC News has learned.
The U.S. military issued a statement saying that American troops in a convoy shot a vehicle carrying the Canadian chargé d'affaires to Iraq and three other diplomats in Baghdad on Tuesday.

Did we miss? How hard is it to hit a dang SUV?
ping
Tourists...
So if the convoy was behind the barrier, who lit up the Canadians?
The diplomat, who was not named, said no one in the Canadian vehicles remembered seeing anyone signalling to them. The first sign they had of a problem was when they heard a booming sound.
Lessons learned.. do not attempt to pass an American convoy!
If our men wanted to take the vehicle out, they would have in an instant, and that's a fact.
"Sorry. Maple leaves just do that to me".
Too bad, Canada. I have no sympathy for amateurs who wander into a warzone without telling anybody and think that they don't need to obey rules. I guess the Italians didn't teach them anything.
Those WERE warning shots! If they hadn't been, they'd been dead!
Why is it that I never, ever, see a headline these days, from anywhere in the entire world, indicating that some other country's military made a mistake against US interests? I guess every other soldier around the world is perfect in combat. /sarc
here is a little different spin on the story.

Now that you mention it, I do seem to remember a game where you see who can shoot the closes to the Canadians without actually hitting them. If you hit a Canuck, you lose your turn. Whoever has the least maple leafs when you run out of ammo wins.
Correct. First volley is into the engine block--if vehicle stops and no further threat, disengage. Second volley is for keeps.
Those shots were the warnings ya bloody kanuk.
And the earlier handmotions weren't waving hello.
Sheesh. If Canada wasn't so close to us I'd say give the whole thing to the French.
Reading the article, it sounds like its possible there was some kind of loud "boom" from the car, and then the shots came in from the side.
So what was the loud "boom"?
The passengers stated they thought they were hit with a roadside bomb, maybe the blew a tire? And that provoked the fire from the military.
Something really odd about this whole thing.
Must be the language barrier.
Ya know, I just might care about this if Canada were a friend of the USA. However, they have gone over to the dark side and have provided aid and comfort to our enemy. So, I really don't care if their envoy and his boy toys had a bad day.
