darkwing, free speech is great. But doesn't the idea of the JCS sending a letter, threatening in tone, to the Post before the piece even ran strike you as more like government intimidation? You can argue that the government intimidation is appropriate, but I don't think you can argue that it is the same as mere "free speech." Indeed, under color of uniform, military speech is quite restricted.
