Why is it when I post a comment the thread seams to automatically stop?

And what in blazes does BTTT mean?

I don't know.

BTTT is 'bump to the top'. Some posters like to follow the latest 'thread' options, some like to follow the latest 'messages' option. Look at the upper right hand corner, under 'latest search topics post help'. You can adjust your preferences according to your preferences, select 'threads' or 'messages'. The bttt will add a message to the thread and will appear in the message option.

I keep the FReep Lexicon bookmarked as a reference to use when I run into acronyms. If I remember correctly, it was recently helpful for "IIRC".

If you're really stuck and can't find what you're looking for in the Lexicon, a friendly "private reply" to a poster who used a particular acronym will usually get you a helpful reply while not clogging up a thread.
