I'm hardly forgiving of her crimes, but she is clearly a nutjob on many levels --- medically crazy long before this and also had a weird preacher all but controlling the family (the guy dressed up like the devil as part of his act; nutty and probably crooked).
Note, I am NOT condoning or forgiving her actions or saying she needs to be free - ever.
Just stating there is at least a grain of truth in the defense.

So would you want a confessed, although obviously nutty, murderer to be freed on bail living next door to you? The judge is the one who is insane here.

I'm sure Yates is nuts, which is why she should perhaps be in an asylum rather than a prison. But she should not be FREE. Even the mentally ill should be held accountable in some way for their actions and it is an outrage that a woman who murdered her five children should be free to walk the streets. (Plus, if Yates is nuts, she poses a genuine threat to society.)
