That's stupid and ridiculous. So plain old murderers should get the death penalty but not the ones who are crazy? Your mercy is stupid and misplaced.
Do you personally know any mentally ill people?
I know both mentally ill people, and I know a murderer.
I feel sorry for the mentally ill people that don't get treated. They are definitely a danger to society. However, I do have copassion for them.
Can you tell us about the ESL incident with Richard Farley and Laura Black? I was told that Richard was upset with the fellow employees due to his layoff. I was also told he was not sent to the gas chamber but got an insanity plea due to the fact that he shot the computers as well as the people. The lawyers must have been good to use this bit of info. Apparently he now serves life in prison just because he couldn't "distinguish between man and machine". This is more than likely just a way to save his life. Did you talk to him?
Richard Farley was obsessed with Laura Black. He asked her out, and she turned him down. After that he followed her. He went to her softball games (company ones); he joined the same gym as her; he followed her to happy hours with other employees. She told ESL's useless HR department, and they did nothing. However, at some point he was fired and I don't remember why.
Some time later, Laura finally got a restraining order. The day it went into affect is the day that he came to ESL and shot everyone. I was told that he did ask for her by name and he asked for his old manager. I don't think his old manager was in the building, but I don't remember the details of this.
He was found sane, and he got the death penalty. However, because this is California and he can get all sorts of appeals he has not been executed. I think the fact that he planned the event for months, he went looking for specific people, and then he shot people after they asked him for mercy. I wasn't at the trial, but some of my friends did testify.
I did not talk to him, and I did not recognize him. I did not know who Laura was. Afterwards, I was at some of the same meetings and parties that she was at.
My office line was the dividing line between the software group and the hardware group. I was in the software group, and my office mate was in the hardware group with Laura. That group suffered the most of all the groups. I got to be friends with lots of them afterwards. I broke up with my boyfriend after all of this, and the hardware group adopted me. They were a really nice group of guys and a few gals. The tells those guys had about him were just chilling. He just sounds pure evil.
Thanks to this incident and Laura, California has an anti-stalking law. I think other states have also adopted anti-stalking laws.
